The DrägerRay Semi-closed circuit Rebreather is a diving
unit which can only be used with gas mixes of nitrogen
and oxygen. The unit uses a fixed Nitrox mixture of
50 % O
/ 50 % N

The unit can only be used with this Nitrox mixture and the
dosage fixed therefor. It must not be used with pure
oxygen or other mixtures as the above mentioned.
The DrägerRay is designed and manufactured for
recreational diving and must not be used at depths
greater than 22 m or for staged decompression diving.
Warning!
DO NOT attempt to use the DrägerRay
rebreather for staged decompression diving or for
diving to depths greater than 22 m. Failure to follow
this warning could lead to serious personal injury or
death.
The DrägerRay has several distinct advantages over
traditional open circuit scuba equipment. It allows the
diver to spend a greater time underwater at a given depth
due to its far more efficient utilization of oxygen; the
quantity of bubbles released from the unit is vastly
diminished as compared to open circuit scuba; and the
use of the nitrox mixtures approved with the DrägerRay
can provide for extended bottom times at the appropriate
depth for the nitrox mixture in contrast to simple air.
Nevertheless, because the DrägerRay is a rebreather,
which by definition recirculates the diver's expired air to
remove carbon dioxide and add oxygen, there are
significant hazards with its use that must be thoroughly
understood before the unit may be used with an
acceptable margin of safety.
Warning!
This owner's manual is not a substitute for proper
training and certification in the use of the
DrägerRay Rebreather. DO NOT attempt to use the
DrägerRay Rebreather unless you have been trained
and certified in its use. Failure to be so trained, even if
you have been trained and certified in the use of other
rebreathers, may lead to serious injury or death.
Along with the problem of too much oxygen, which can
cause convulsions due to oxygen toxicity (which would
almost invariably lead to drowning), by using the
DrägerRay or any other rebreather, you are exposing
yourself to the possibility of receiving too little oxygen,
which is known as hypoxia. While there are a number of
other breathing gas-related problems associated with
rebreather use, it is primarily these two concerns -too
much oxygen causing central nervous system toxicity
leading to convulsions and drowning, and too little
oxygen, which leads to hypoxia and unconsciousness
(then drowning) - that is of the greatest concern when
using any rebreather.
