BIONIC NECK SUPPORT - IMPORTANT USER INFORMATION
5. Wearing your Bionic Neck Support
Wear the BNS as described in the fitting sec-
tion and remove the warning label from the
QRLS (4) To fasten the device, fully engage the
QRLS (4) and push firmly towards the throat.
IMPORTANT: When the QRLS is fully closed a
positive 'click' will be heard and felt. Always
double check that the QRLS has been closed
properly prior to riding. If unsure open and close
again to confirm the clicking sound.
WARNING! The first time you use the BNS
you will be immediately aware of the re-
striction of your head movement. Ride VERY
CAREFULLY at first until you get comfortable
with this restriction while in movement.
If after a while you find this restriction too much, try again with the shoulder pads (2) re-
moved. This will allow you a bit more freedom of movement, but you are encouraged to try
again with the shoulder pads added after a few months of use. This is because the higher the
BNS is over the shoulders, up to the minimum of 40mm (1.5 inches) of the bottom of your hel-
met, the greater the chance that the Bionic will provide the intended benefit (See Figure 17).
5.1 Ways of securing the BNS
Prior to your first ride with the Bionic, you should think about the way in which you would
like to wear it. It is suggested that you first try the BNS in either the standalone, A-Strap or
X-Strap configuration (see below).

5.1.1. In the Standalone configuration

In the standalone configuration (Figure 11) the BNS is used on
its own without any additional body armour or straps. It is worn
on top of the clothing that you normally wear for riding.
5.1.2. With the X-Strap(12)
The X-Strap (12) is so called because when used the straps cross in an 'X' pattern across your
chest. Many users like the X-Strap because it is light and does not have any visible straps
over your jersey. The X Strap is sold with the BNS and is used as follow:
1. Take one of the X-Straps and stretch it wide enough to put your head and one arm through
it. Slowly let go of the strap and allow it to settle under your armpit and over the opposite
shoulder.
2. Repeat this process with the second strap over your other arm and shoulder. The X- Straps
will now be in a X shape across your chest.
3. Now put on your jersey and then the BNS on either side of your neck, pull your jersey away
from your neck to reveal the X-Strap. Grab the X-Strap and pull it over the X-Strap Hook(5)
of your BNS then let go.
Exchangeable pads.

4. Repeat this on the other side strap as well. The BNS should now sit firmly pressed down
onto your shoulder. The X-Strap could also be worn over your jersey.

5.1.3. With the A-Strap (Sold seperately)
The A-Strap is sold separately and offers riders another lightweight strapping system that
is used as follow:

A-Strap
The A-Strap can be worn under or over your jersey.
1. Open the A-Strap, and fit the Rear Stabilizer Strap through the BNS Rear Stabilizers(10).
2. Open the BNS and place it around your neck.
3. Hook the Left and Right Front Straps over the BNS Chest Pad (11) supports.
4. Engage the BNS Quick Release Locking System(4), close the Chest Strap and make final
adjustments to the A-Strap as required. The BNS should now sit pressed firmly down on
your shoulders.

5.2 Combining the BNS with body armor
In most cases it is likely that the BNS will be worn with some other form of body armor.
Alpinestars offers a wide selection of BNS compatible body armor which can be divided
into two categories, body armor with removable back puck panels and body armor without
removable back puck panels.
