The unit must be installed outdoors, following local regulations and standards and in any case in compliance with standard EN 378-3. The unit must be
positioned so as to prevent a refrigerant leak from flowing into the building or in any case from endangering persons or objects. The refrigerant must not flow
into any ventilation duct, entrance doors, hatches or similar openings in case of leakage. When a shelter is provided for the machine installed outdoors, it
must be equipped with a natural or forced ventilation system. For units installed outdoors but in a place where a refrigerant leak could stagnate, for example
in a hole, installation must comply with the requirements for the detection of leaks and for the ventilation required for "machinery rooms" according to EN
378-1. In units charged with R32 gas, it is mandatory to remote the drainage of the safety valves to move gas exhaust away in case of tripping of the over-
pressure valves. The pipes to be remoted to drain the safety valves must have a cross-section and length compliant with national laws and European direc-
tives.
The safety valve models used depend on the size of the machines. The following are the features of the safety valves used:
High pressure valve (*)
Outlet diameter Tripping pressure
Size 70÷2120 – 10÷14
3/4" GM
Size 2140-2160 – 15-16
1" GM
Note: The number of valves doubles in the case of accessory DVS – double safety valve.
Note: Accessory GM - Pressure gauges (***).
Note: The leak detector (LKD option) must only be used to verify refrigerant leaks from the unit. It must not be regarded, in any way whatsoever, as a safety
component.
In case of breakage, the evaporator unit could release refrigerant into the hydraulic circuits. It is the responsibility of the installer to design and protect the
hydraulic circuits using safety valves that must be placed in an area away from possible sources of ignition.
Units contain RR32 gas, classified in safety group A2L according to EN378-1, annex E, therefore flammable. For machines operating with R32 refrigerant, a
risk assessment has been carried out and appropriate risk mitigation measures have been adopted. In any case the unit is not suitable for installation in
classified explosion risk areas.
The person in charge of the system must perform a risk assessment after installation of the unit considering the adjacent danger zones and generated by
the unit. The risk assessment must include the analysis of any ignition sources in proximity of the unit. The risk assessment and consequent mitigation
measures must be executed and applied throughout the entire lifetime of the unit, including transport, storage, installation, operation, maintenance and final
disposal. The refrigerant gas is pressurised inside the unit even when not operating and completely disconnected. A possible leak would release its entire
content into the environment. All personnel needing to operate nearby or on the unit must be appropriately trained to work in safety. Risk reduction requires
meeting the guidelines in the following paragraphs regarding ducting of the safety valves. The discharge of safety valves must be routed outside in free air
free from sources of ignition and never in a confined space.
If broken, the plate exchanger of the unit could release refrigerant into the hydraulic circuits. It is the responsibility of the installer to design and protect the
hydraulic circuits by means of safety valves which must be located outside the unit in an area away from possible sources of ignition; an automatic deaera-
tor must also be provided, again outside the unit and at the highest point and/or where possible pockets of gas stagnation could be generated in order to
vent them in areas without sources of ignition.
Risk reduction requires meeting the guidelines in the following paragraphs regarding ducting of the safety valves. The discharge of safety valves must be
routed outside in free air free from sources of ignition and never in a confined space.
The safety valves are sized so as to allow them to be connected to an exhaust pipe section downstream. The diameter, length and number of bends of the
pipe section downstream of the safety valves must be chosen in such a way that the pressure losses in the section itself do not exceed the design values.
The diameter of the downstream pipe of the valve must be sized according to the constraints in the table below. The table shows the minimum internal di-
ameter (in mm) of steel piping according to length, number of bends and type of valve installed in the machine.
The safety valves are sized so as to allow them to be connected to an exhaust pipe section downstream. The diameter, length and number of elbows of the
downstream pipe section of the safety valves must be chosen so that pressure drops in that section do not exceed the design values. The diameter of the
downstream pipe of the valve must be sized according to the constraints in the table below. The table displays the minimum diameter of the pipe depending
on its length, number of elbows and type of valve installed in the unit
