ADJUSTING THE INTEGRATED STEERING
PIN ('AHEADSET')
Integrated steering pins of the Ahead-
set type (11) are being increasingly
used on sports bicycles nowadays. This
type of steering pin is pushed over the
inner head tube of the front fork and
clamped by means of 1 or 2 hexagonal
screws directly onto this steering tube.
The headset bearing play is adjusted by
clamping the steering pin against the
headset by means of a hexagonal screw
and a nut which clamps in the inner
6
head tube. The Aheadset is available in
various lengths and, of course, with vari-
ous angles of inclination. You can consult
your Batavus dealer for the correct ad-
justment of your headset bearing ring.

• A minimum of 7 cm of both the sad-
dle and steering pin must be inserted
into the frame tube! This point is
usually indicated with small lines and a
warning.
• When applying corrections with the
steering pin, make sure that when you
tighten things up again, the handlebars
are straight in relation to the wheel.
• And if you are working on the stee-
ring or saddle pin anyway, apply a little
acid-free vaseline to the part which is
in the frame; this will prevent the two
parts from corroding and seizing up in
the long term.
THE GRIPS
In order to be able to steer safely it is
important that the grips and bar ends,
if present, are fi rmly fi xed. Regular
checks prevent trouble. Torn grips can
also cause accidents during cycling so
it is advisable to replace them as soon
as possible. Your Batavus dealer always
knows what to do.
The fully-adjustable Ergo-Grip (12) will
(11)
give you even more comfort. This grip
is one of Batavus's own developments;
it gives the palm of the hand just the
right support. Because of this, tingling
fi ngers and numb hands are limited to
a minimum.
The grip is equipped with a bolt which
has to fall precisely into a groove in the
handlebars. If you wish to adjust the
Ergo-Grip, loosen the bolt a few turns
with a 3 mm hexagonal key, place the
grip in the correct position and then
tighten the bolt again. Check whether
your grip is tight enough!
THE HEADSET
The front fork is fi xed in the frame
by means of the headset (13) which
consists of two (ball) bearing rings at
the top and bottom of the head tube
of the frame.
It is important that the headset is pro-
perly adjusted. Damage (e.g. 'pitting' in
the bearing ring) almost always arises
if there is play in the two bearings. It
