THE LUGGAGE CARRIER
As the name indicates, the luggage
carrier is intended for luggage and not
passengers.
Look at the text on the carrier itself,
or consult your Batavus dealer, for the
maximum acceptable load.
Ensure that a saddlebag is hung on the
luggage carrier and not on the bag
distancer!
THE STAND
The Batavus bicycle is sturdy and stable,
so that the bicycle is not as likely to fall
over in high winds.

• Do not push the bicycle forwards wit-
hout lifting it slightly to get the stand
to fold away, or you will damage the
stand and frame.
• Never sit or cycle on a bicycle if the
stand is still down! This is for your own
safety and to avoid damage to your
bicycle.
• You must also remove your child from
the child's seat before putting the bicy-
cle stand down and vice versa: fi rst fold
away the stand and then put the child
in the child's seat.
CHILD'S SEATS
Various recommendations are given
below in the interests of the safety of
parent and child.
Batavus gives preference to a child's seat
at the rear of the bicycle and fi xed to the
frame (vertical back fork or seat tube). A
child's seat mounted on the front of the
bicycle affects the steering. If, despite
this, you opt for a child's seat on the
front of the bicycle, choose one with a
headset mounting (this is a system for
mounting the seat on the frame) or stee-
ring pin mounting and not one which
hangs on the handlebars themselves. This
means that the frame carries the load
rather than the carrier or the handlebars.
A bicycle with an extra sturdy frame,
roomy, low step-over, broadly construc-
ted handlebars and a very solid stand is
the most appropriate bicycle for child's
seats on the front and rear of the
bicycle. In the case of the more sporty
bicycles, the use of a child's seat on the
front restricts the step-over room.

• You can also consult your Batavus dea-
ler about dress guards, child's seats with
foot protection to keep your child's feet
out of the way of the spokes or a spring
cover to reduce the risk of your child's
fi ngers from getting caught between
the coiled springs of the saddle.

SERVICES AND YOUR DEALER
Vital components such as cables, spokes
and brakes get the chance to settle in
the running-in period. Your Batavus
dealer may call you back one or more
times for careful examination and
adjustment or you can call in his help
yourself (40). Furthermore, he will, of
course provide assistance in the event
of breakdowns, doubts, strange noises
or obstinate faults so that he can de-
tect and correct any shortcomings at an
early stage.
However, to be able to continue
enjoying cycling, and cycling safely,
professional maintenance is neces-
sary, including an annual service. Your
dealer not only has the tools and the
experience to adjust and grease hid-
den rotating components such as the
headset, freewheel and hubs, but his
expertise also enables him to recognize
