B. An independently-working backlight
(36). Equipped with a switch ('ON/OFF')
and works on batteries.
C. An integrated backlight in the
luggage carrier (37). This technology
(which works on batteries)
makes use of a sensor and automati-
cally switches the backlight on when it
becomes dark and if the bicycle moves
(press once: automatic position, press
twice: shines continually, press three
times: OFF). The backlight continues to
shine for a while when the bicycle stops
(e.g. for safety at traffi c lights).

WHAT CAN YOU DO YOURSELF?
1. The drawing shows where the dynamo
should be, relative to the tyre (38). Ensure
that the imaginary axis from the dynamo
also goes through the axis of the wheel
(the axle). Furthermore, the grooves on
the dynamo wheel must make maximum
(37)
contact with the ridges on the tyre.
2. Examine the electrical wiring to
check that:
a) The wires are well fi xed to both light
sources.
b) Bulbs and dynamo are not corroded.
Scrape clean the contact points with a
blade, if necessary.
c) Risk of a short-circuit, (worn protec-
tive layer).

• If the batteries are empty, go along
to your Batavus dealer.
(38)
• Of course, you always check whether
the lights are working before you get
on your bicycle when it is dark.
• Never switch on your dynamo when
cycling, unless you have a bicycle with a
dynamo switch.
• If the weather is wet check whether
the dynamo has enough grip on the
side of the tyre.
THE HUB DYNAMO
The hub dynamo is a dynamo which is
integrated in the front hub (39).
This hub dynamo is not only compact
and light in weight, but also much
more effi cient, electrically and mecha-
nically speaking. This lighting system
ensures that there is less rolling resi-
stance, fewer defects and no slipping.
The wiring has a 'push-in' plug.
