Preparing the Resin Injection Tool
1. Cover the working area and the floor with protective sheeting.
2. Remove the parts from the packaging.
3. Shake the resin cartridge before use.
4. Lightly turn off the cap from the resin cartridge. The cap will lift off the green safety pin.
5. Remove the metal safety ring from the green safety pin.
6. Remove the green safety pin and discard it.
7. Put the cap onto the static mixer (Fig. 27).
8. Push the static mixer 1 centimeter/ 0.4 inches deep into the injection tube (Fig. 28).
WARNING: Make sure the injection tube is fully secured to the static mixer. If the tube is not fully secured, the
resin can erupt when it is injected. Resin eruption can cause safety risks.
9. Turn the cap tight to safely attach the static mixer to the resin cartridge (Fig. 28).
10. Keep the resin cartridge pointed up and insert it into the resin injection tool.
11. Lightly press the handle to secure the resin cartridge until it softly connects to bottom of the cartridge.
12. Keep the resin injection tool with the cartridge pointed up and sit in front of the patient.
13. The technician fully attaches the injection tube to the injection valve (Fig. 29).
Resin Injection
WARNING: Make sure the injection tube is fully secured to the static mixer and injection valve. If the tube is not
fully secured, the resin can erupt when it is injected. Resin eruption can cause safety risks. Do a check before you
begin resin injection.
1. Keep the resin injection tool pointed up while you start to inject the resin slowly (Fig. 30).
2. When resin has saturated the distal area, injection speed can increase.
NOTE: Too much resin at the distal end can cause an exotherm reaction. An exotherm reaction makes it harder
to inject more resin. Make sure you spread the resin evenly from the distal end towards the proximal end.
3. The technician slowly pulls the resin into the interior and up towards the groin, pushing out the air during resin
injection (Fig. 31).
4. Control the resin flow to the rear side of the residual limb while you maintain a slow build-up.
NOTE: Make sure to spread and saturate the braids before the resin starts to cure.
5. Use the lanyard cord to push the resin a thumb width above the marked line on the fiber braids.
6. Stop the resin flow when the fiber braids are saturated. To stop, push the pressure release lever on the grip of
the resin injection tool (Fig. 32).
7. Use pliers on crimp rings to shut off resin flow in the injection tube (Fig. 33).
8. Place side cutter between the two crimp rings and cut through the injection tube.
Resin Curing
1. Tell the patient to slowly extend the hip when the resin is warm.
2. Scars and muscle attachments can change the shape of the residual limb during hip extension. Stretch the
outer layer of silicone insulation sheet up when you mold the distal end to hold the fiber braids in place.
3. Do not allow the resin to build up at the distal end. If necessary, massage the resin of the socket when it cures
to correctly shape.
Casting Disassembly
After 10 minutes do as follows:
1. Remove the tape from the taping ring.
2. Remove the two O-rings.
3. Remove the outer layer of silicone insulation sheet.
4. Remove the tape ring.
5. Remove the socket from the residual limb.
6. Pull the inner layer of silicone insulation sheet and the silicone insulation cap out of the socket.
