INSTALLATION OF THE HEADSET AND OFFSET FORK
Particular features of the headset
and the frame:
The new 596 is equipped with a headset
which combines a standard 1/8 inch
bearing in the lower part with a needle
bearing in the upper part. The headset is
delivered fitted to the frame and includes
a patented, dismountable lower bearing
ring. This ring, factory installed with the
headset, can be replaced in the event of
deterioration, thus protecting the frame's
head tube.
Check before installation:
Check that the contact surfaces of bearings
are clean and free of paint
Pre-assemble the bearing thrust ring and the
bearing in the lower socket. Check that there
is clearance between the head tube and the
fork and that the latter turns freely.
The bearings must fit into the head tube with
little or no resistance.
