3..start.charging
The battery can be charged in two ways. One is the "rapid charging" procedure which charges the battery in a short
time; the other is the "refresh" procedure which "reactivates" the battery. The need for this charging mode is indicated
by the "Refresh" LED on the charger (see the illustration in Section 3.2).

1) Turn on the power after installing the battery. If the battery temperature is
appropriate, the charging light (green) will light, and charging will start. Char-
ging is completed in approximately 2,5 to 3 hours. (Charging can take longer
at higher temperatures or with new batteries.)
2) When the battery temperature is high (40°C or above) or low (0°C or less),
the stand-by light (yellow) will light until the battery reaches the appropriate
temperature. When the battery temperature is appropriate, the charging light
(green) will light, and charging will start automatically. The stand-by time will
vary depending on the conditions, but it will take approximately one to two
hours.
3) The battery capacity lamps indicate the progress of battery charging. These
lamps serve as a guide for the time remaining until charging is completed.
4) When charging is completed, the charging lamp (green) of the charger and
the battery capacity lamps go off automatically.
With the refresh charging process (after approx. 20 to 30 charging cycles),
discharging and charging takes place automatically.
Fully discharging and subsequently charging the nickel metal hydride battery
revitalises the battery cells, which prevents a decrease in the battery capacity.
1) Set the battery in the charger.
2) If the battery needs to be refreshed, the refresh lamp (yellow) blinks to in-
dicate theat the battery should be refresh charged. When the start button is
pressed while the refresh lamp is blinking (for about 10 seconds), the refresh
lamp lights up and refreshing of the battery is started.
3) As with charging, the battery capacity lamps indicate the progress of batte-
ry refreshing. The refresh time varies between 3 and 13 hours, depending on
the battery capacity.
