Chain tension
(figs 42 and 49)
Distance A (fig. 42) shall not be inferior to
5 mm (3/16"), otherwise the chain must be
retensioned.
Note:
If the slotted hole of strap (108, fig. 49) does
not permit further adjustment, the chain is
worn and has to be renewed.
1) Unlock the quattro frame using pin (104,
fig. 49).
2) Release bolts (109) and nuts (110) some
turns.
3) Release nuts (111) some turns.
4) Rotate adjutment spindle (112) ccw until
distance A is 4.5 cm (1-

Rotate spindle (113) as many turns as
spindle (112) to ensure that the frame is
horizontal.
5) Rotate spindle (114) until the quattro
frame bottoms against the feed unit and
pin (104) can be replaced.
6) Retighten bolts (109) as well as nuts
(110) and (111).
7) Lock the quattro frame using pin (104).

Checking the synchronism
1) The feed elements of the conveyor chain
must be below those of feed drum (B,
fig. 42).
2) The conveyor chain must run in such a
way over sprocket (C) that the sprocket
teeth engage on the outside of the chain
between the top and the bottom feed ele-
ments.
This allows the maize stems to be trans-
ported betweenn the feed elements and
inside the gaps of the sprocket.
3) The cutting discs of the quattro feed
unit(s) must be installed as shown in the
figs 21 and 31.
There shall be at least a 1 mm (5/128")
clearance between the discs (see X.2.).

In the factory the twin discs have been set at a dis-
tance of 2 mm (5/64") to each other. If that distance
increases during work correct it as follows:

discs

Slacken conveyor chain by loosening spring
(115, fig. 49).
Remove conveyor chain (106) (see XVIII.3.).
Remove bolt (116) and nut (123) on
outer,and if required on inner cutting disc.
Re-adjust the distance to meet 2 mm by ad-
ding shims 'TH0079' at the outer and/or re-
moving them at the inner disc.
Re-install bolt and nut and conveyor chain.
Shear bolt safety
The machine is protected against damage by
foreign obejcts and blockages by means of a
shear bolt 'NP881'. Replacement shear bolts
can be found in the tool box.
The shear bolt is fitted in the sprocket
'NP868' of the rh feed drum 'NP00868'.
Renew a broken shear bolt as follows:
1) Disengage the pto, stop the tractor en-
gine and make sure that the engine can-
not be started inadventently.
2) Clear out the blockage.
3) Remove the broken shear bolt from the
sprocket using an Allen key.
4) Position the rh feed drum correctly in re-
lation to the sprocket, i.e. the marked
notch of the drum and the tooth for the
shear bolt must coincide; also refer to
sect. 3. above.
5) Install the new shear bolt with Loctite or
safety with a center punch.
Note:
Only one shear bolt shall be installed per
quattro unit!
