V-Belt tensioning
(fig. 23A)
Regularly check V-belt tension; if belts start slipping (especially during first hours of operation), they
must be retensioned:
1)
Slacken jam nuts (34).
2)
Tighten tensioning nuts (35), till tension indicator (36) is on desired height. Generally this will be at a
distance of about 1 mm (5/128") over the plate, but in case of max. power requirement the indicator
should just touch the plate.
Note: The correct V-belt-tension avoids belt problems.
3)
Tighten jam nuts (34).
4)
If bolts (57) have been slackened for any reason, retighten them strongly and them release one turn.
Since the V-belts on this machine are special make, replace exclusively

by equal ones ('ND9630', see IPL, section A). Normal V-belts offer a
much lower usefull life.
1. Only exchange complete sets of V-belts.
2. Release belt tension during off-season period.

MH 180SU: Chain tensioning
Move chain box to the horizontal position. Check tension: at a stand-still the chain must be visible
between MIN. and MAX.-marks behind the control window (37).
Re-tension, if necessary, as follows: slacken nuts (38), adjust correct tension through nuts (39), then
tighten nuts (38).

Lubrication
Attention:
Warranty claims of all damages caused by insufficient lubrication will be
rejected. Always apply a good and adhesive multi- purpose grease when
lubricating machine and pto drive shaft.
A. Machine
Each feed / chopping unit has only 2 grease nipples: both on the hub of the chopping wheel,
one accessible via the flap (28, fig. 18) of the sharpening unit and the other between chopping
wheel housing and pulley guard. These grease nipples should be greased daily during the sea-
son.
Attention:
Another graese nipple is found at the slewing surface of the chute: grease daily in the season.
B. Pto drive shaft

Always keep foam rubber ring in coupling (40, fig. 22) between chop-
per housing and feed units soaked with grease.
(fig. 24)
Ensure profile tubes of pto drive shaft are well greased at all times.
Check this on a new or repaired machine and/or drive shaft prior to
first run and then every 20 working hours. Also ensure the sliding sur-
faces of the protection tubes are slightly greased.
