3. Adjusting / renewing the guidance tip
Adjustment is required as soon as dirt starts accumulating between tip and cut-off discs. Renewal
becomes necessary as soon as adjustment is not possible any more.
A. Adjustment
1) Just slacken the 2 attachment bolts (62) of the guidance tip (61).
2) Position the guidance tip that the space between the highest point of the cut-off disc and the
guidance tip is about 1 mm (5/128 in).
3) Check whether this distance is kept during a full rotation; correct as necessary.
4) Tighten the attachment bolts (62).
5) Check the setting of the cut-off discs (also see X.2.A.): the cut-off discs must just run free of
the guidance tip.
B. Renewal
1) Remove the 6 attachment bolts of the left cut-off disc.
2) Remove the 2 attachment bolts (62) of the guidance tip (61).
3) Remove the guidance tip (61).
4) Place the new guidance tip (61).
5) Re-install the left cut-off disc.
6) Re-adjust the cut-off discs (also see X.2.A.).
4. Removal / installation of a chopping knife
A. Removal
1) Adjust chopping wheel sufficiently backwards, then remove the access cover (60, fig. 3) and
the sharpening unit.
2) Remove both access covers (48 and 49, fig. 20) from the rear of the upper rotor housing.
3) Rotate chopping wheel (using key) to line up the inner knife bolt nut with the inner access
port, remove the M16 nut.
4) Rotate chopping wheel to line up the outer knife bolt nut with the appropriate access port,
remove both M16 nut and ring.
5) Remove knife with bolts and spacers.
DANGER: Excercise extreme care when handling sharp knife.
B. Installation
Attention:
1) Thoroughly clean and degrease all knife attachment bolts, then apply 'Loctite Nutlock 243'.
2) Align the chopping wheel exposing the two holes at the knife sharpener position: insert the
knife together with M16*-bolts and spacers (spacer 'EH232' in outer, spacer 'EP8' in inner
position).
*Inner bolts: M16x80 ('NP1036'), outer: M16x65 ('NP1023').
2) Fit ring 'EH233' and M16 lock nut through outer access port onto outer bolt, slightly tighten
the nut.
3) Rotate chopping wheel to line up the inner knife bolt with the inner knife bolt with the inner
access port, fit M 16 lock nut and torque lock nut to 270 Nm (200 ft-lb).
4) Rotate chopping wheel to line up the outer knife bolt nut with the outer access port and tor-
que lock nut to 270 Nm (200 ft-lb).
5) Install the three access covers and the knife sharpener.
6) Sharpen knives in accordance with IX.3. ensuring all are sharp and the cutting edges rotate
in the same plane.
5. Changing the chopping length
A. Changing gears
1) Fully pull out the sharpening unit.
2) Slacken the 4 screws (18).
3) Remove cover (7 or 50).
4) Remove circlip (31) and shim (12).
5) Remove hubs (35) and (36).
6) Exchange the gear (4).
7) Slacken bolt (17).
8) Remove lock washer (23) and ring (39).

When a chopping knife is being renewed, it may become necessary
to remove the counter knife temporarily, due to the possibility of addi-
tion of tolerances. When knives are fitted, install knife sharpener and
grind-off the surplus, then re-install and re-adjust counter knife and
proceed with step 5).
