Therefore, it is required that the district heating pipes outside the pit
are properly supported with piled-up sand pads (*) before sand and
soil are laid on top of the pipes. Failure to support the pipes can
lead to the entire pit being inadvertently filled with district heating
water.

5.1.3 Backfill
WARNING
Risk of collapse
Death or serious personal injury
‐
Make sure that the specified size of gravel is used for
the backfill.
•
The plate compactor must not have mechanical
contact with the solution and the connected pipes.
•
Use either a plate compactor or earth rammer when
working in proximity to the solution.
1
1a
Even pressure on all sides of the solution
Observe the following conditions when you carry out the backfill:
•
The backfill must meet the same requirements as those for the
bedding layer.
•
The backfill must provide sufficient support for the solution on all
sides and ensure that the load can be transferred without
detrimental point impacts or similar impacts.
2
Even pressure on all sides
•
The backfilling must be carried out so that the solution is not
damaged or deformed.
Use mechanical compacting equipment and compact the
backfill to a minimum proctor density of 97 %.
