To assure correct installation, read the warnings contained in this manual.
Installing the instrument:
The I300 is attached to the panel by means of two stirrups. Attach as
follows:
- Insert a screw into each stirrup.
- Slide the instrument into the hole in the panel.
- Insert the stirrups into the grooves on the sides of the instrument.
- Position each stirrup at the rear of its seat, terminal side.
- Tighten the screws until the instrument is securely attached. Do not exert
excessive force when tightening.
CE CONFORMITY:
The I300 complies with European Directives regarding:
- Electromagnetic Compatibility: 89/336/CEE.
- Low-voltage supplies (LVD): 73/23/CEE, amended by EEC Directive 93/68.
Follow the connection instructions precisely so that the installed instrument will
comply with the following European Directives:
- Electromagnetic Compatibility: 89/336 CEE
- Low-voltage safety: 73/23 CEE, amended by EEC Directive 93/68.
If the I300 is used other than as specified in this manual, its protection level may
be reduced.
Preventive and routine maintenance
At the end of the warranty period, expert users may replace components or
calibrate any of the circuits in the unit. Cabinets with air inlets (with or without
fan) should be cleaned regularly if installed in dusty environments such as
foundries or machine shops.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: GEFRAN has a customer service department. Any and
all defects deriving from use not conforming to the instructions in this manual are
excluded from the warranty.

Installation and wiring
Do not place the instrument near:
Panel
-transformers, relays,
-thyristor power units, motors.
As a rule, the panel should be placed in a separate section of the cabinet, away
from the power part and relays.
Do not place any instruments above heatsinks.
If the temperature inside the cabinet exceeds 55°C, install a fan with air filter.

Connecting to the power mains
The I300 is designed to be permanently connected to the power mains. Therefo-
re, the user must install an appropriate power cutoff device inside the cabinet
near the instrument (switch or similar device).
IMPORTANT: install a 250Ma 230Vca fuse near the instrument.
If you install several instruments in the same cabinet, they have to be powered as
directly as possible: use a star pattern for wiring and avoid "daisy-chain" wiring
between instruments.
Do not power the instruments with the same line used for relay or contactor coils.
If the power grid is subject to disturbance, especially due to high-power switching
via contactors or thyristor controllers, the instruments should be powered by
means of a transformer.
Grounding
The grounding terminals on all the instruments must be connected in a star to a
single point (the installation's metal ground) by a cable whose section is the same
as that of the power cables. To avoid common mode disturbances, it is essential
to make sure that the grounds of all devices connected to the instrument's inputs
and outputs have the same potential.
Connecting inputs and outputs
The wires connected to the inputs and outputs (analog, serial communication)
must be kept separate along their entire length from power cables and from
cables used for relays and coils.
Use wiring raceways to keep the wires separate. Each cable may transmit only a
single type of signal. Make the connections with shielded cables and twisted pair.
The sheathing MUST be grounded at a single point, preferably at the ground ter-
minal side of the instrument.
