The I3X4Y has a serial communication system that allows use of a "supervisor" to read data, set setpoints, reset alarms, configure the
instrument, etc.
Physical connection and communication protocol
- RS 485: EIA standard, differential signal, instruments connected in parallel with 2-lead wire (up to 32 I300s without repeater).
To guarantee correct polarity when wiring the RS 485 network, the communication card is fit with 301 kΩ resistors that connect lines A and B to
the +5V and 0V terminals.
- Communication protocol: Modbus / J.Bus, in slave mode - binary code (RTU).
- 8 character bits, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit, no parity.
- Configurable baud rates: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 or 19200 baud.
- Each instrument must be identified by a slave address numbered from 1 to 63.
- Instruction codes:

Any decimals in the data will not be transmitted.
- Error codes:
1 : unknown function
2 : incorrect address
3 : incorrect data
4 : instrument busy or not ready
Addresses and access to parameters and variables
Addresses in Modbus protocol are identical to those in J.BUS - 1 protocol. Addresses not shown are reserved to the system.
