Time
The device indicates the complete time in hours and minutes (hh: mm) during which
the storage battery is charged and discharged. The time of the trickle charge and of
the pause is not added.
Generally, the charging times in the manual mode are shorter. In automatic mode,
the charging times might be longer as they are defined by the storage battery itself.
So, e.g. a storage battery partly charged at 80% might need a long time in automa-
tic mode until it is charged completely due to the fact that only the trickle charge cur-
rent or float charge current is flowing.
If a storage battery exceeds approx. 80% of the capacity it can take up, a part of the
charging current is converted into heat. This might involve a heating of the storage
battery.
The discharging time is also shorter in the manual mode. In automatic mode, the
discharging times might be longer as they are defined by the storage battery itself.
Please observe that storage batteries with a low capacity (lower than 500mAh) might
not reach their indicated capacity especially in case of discharge in the automatic
mode, as the capacity that can be drawn strongly depends on the discharging cur-
rent and as almost half of their capacity is being discharged at a very high current.
There are different charging modes for NiCd and NiMH storage batteries:

Standard charge
C/ 10
Accelerated charge
C/ 3
Boost charge
1C – 1.5C
Lead storage batteries should be discharged at approx. C/ 20. For a lead storage
battery with 6500mAh, the following values result:

325mA

In order not to have to enter all parameters again, you can select a program that is
already loaded.

2. LOAD PROGRAM
If a program for this storage battery type has already been stored, it can be selected
right now. The most important parameters are indicated, such as e.g. the program,
storage battery type, cell number and the mode. But even more data have been sto-
red, such as e.g. a possible manual charging current and the final charging voltage,
charging time, charging capacity or the storage battery capacity of lead storage bat-
teries, discharging current and the final charging voltage.
LOAD PROGRAM
Pr.01: Ni06A-CYC
The loading of programs can be stopped. The menu topic STOP is between the pro-
grams 20 and 1.
LOAD PROGRAM
Pr.
QUIT
If no program is loaded, all storage battery parameters have to be entered. First, the
storage battery type has to be selected.
Three different storage battery types can be charged. NiCd and NiMH storage batte-
ries,
standard lead storage batteries (such as e.g. in cars and motorcycles) and lead gel or
lead fleece storage batteries.
SET TYPE
1. NiCd / NiMH
2. Pb STANDARD
3. SEALED PbACID
For lead storage batteries, the operating mode has to be entered, i.e. if the storage
battery is operated in stand-by parallel operation (the storage battery always remains
charged such as in cars etc.) or in cyclic operation (the storage battery is discharged
and charged again).
SET USAGE
1. STANDBY USE
2. CYCLE USE
For lead storage batteries, you have to enter the nominal capacity indicated on the
battery. It can be adjusted in the range of 500mAh to 100Ah by means of the
UP/DOWN keys. When you press and hold the UP/DOWN key, the values being
added increase. Thus, bigger capacity values can be selected faster.
