1. automatic: the charging current is automatically adapted to the storage battery by
the device
2. manual I: the current is set permanently
3. manual I, U, T: additionally to the current, the final charging voltage and the maxi-
mum charging time are determined as well
4. manual I, U, C: additionally to the current, the final charging voltage and the maxi-
mum charging capacity are determined as well
For lead storage batteries it is only possible to select AUTOMATIC and MANUAL I,
as the final charging voltage, which depends on the temperature with lead storage
batteries, is calculated and adapted automatically.
Please observe that when charging with MANUAL I, U, T or MANUAL I, U, C the
maximum charging time T or the maximum charging capacity C will not be reached
necessarily, because it can be switched off prematurely after the final charging volta-
ge U has been reached.
Please observe that with storage battery packs of 17- 20 cells, the adjusted maxi-
mum charging current I might not be reached. Storage battery packs with 17- 20
cells should be charged with MANUAL I, U, T or
MANUAL I, U, C. Therefore, with these cell numbers the indication immediately skips
to 4. MANUAL I, U, C (see chapter 4. Features) to set the charging mode.
For the manual charge, first select the charging current. The charging current can be
selected in the range of 250mA up to 3A.
The charging current I should be selected between C/ 10 and a maximum of 1.5C for
NiCd and NiMH storage batteries. Please make sure that the storage battery is com-
patible for boost charge!
With lead storage batteries, the correct charging current for this storage battery type
is calculated by means of the storage battery capacity and is indicated. Only higher
currents than the calculated one can be selected, because the current always will be
lower than the maximum indicated charging current. Therefore, it is possible that you
cannot select values up to 250mA for lead storage batteries.
SET CHA-CURRENT
250mA
When charging with MANUAL I, U, T or MANUAL I, U, C , which only can be selected
for NiCd and NiMH storage batteries, now the final charging voltage has to be ente-
red.
The final charging voltage per cell for NiCd and NiMH storage batteries can be adju-
sted in 10mV steps in a range of 1.35 up to 1.55V.
SET CHA-VOLTAGE
1.35V

During charging, storing and deleting there is the menu topic ABORT between the
program places 20 and 1 to leave the routine.
The LC display (alphanumeric) indicates
- the program (CHA, DIS, CHK, CYC, ALV, SLF, WIN)
- the storage battery type (Ni, Pb)
- the number of cells
- the charging mode (auto / manual)
- the present storage battery voltage (U)
- the present charging or discharging current (I)
- the present or stored charging data (C) and discharging data (D) in mAh or Ah
- the required time in hours and minutes (hh: mm)
- the operating temperature of the Charge Terminal.
There are 3 functional keys to enter the programs and the settings.
Main menu
If no storage battery is connected, it is possible to refresh exhausted (0 Volts) stora-
ge batteries, to delete programs, to activate a temperature limit for NiCd and NiMH
storage batteries, to switch on and off the buzzer and to select the language. The
settings for the temperature monitoring, the buzzer and the language are stored in an
EEPROM and remain valid even if the Charge Terminal is being separated from the
mains voltage.
Cell number
The device suggests a value corresponding to the applied voltage in order to enter
the cell number. The actual cell number might deviate from the suggested value due
to the fact that the storage battery might have been strongly discharged or currently
charged. With NiCd and NiMH storage batteries, the storage battery will be checked
for defective cells after the set-up phase.
Charging programs
- CHA (CHARGE) = charge or recharge only once
CHARGE means that the connected storage battery is being charged.
- DIS (DISCHARGE) = discharge only once
DISCHARGE means that the connected storage battery only is being discharged.
Never use this program for lead storage batteries!
- CHK (CHECK) = discharge once and charge again
CHECK means that the connected storage battery is being discharged and char-
ged again.
