2.3.4

Mains connection (AC)

• Connection to an AC mains supply may only be carried out by qualified personnel!
• Cable cross section must be suitable for the maximum input/output current of the device (see
table below)!
• Before plugging in the input plug ensure that the device is switched off by its mains switch!
• Ensure that all regulations for the operation of and connection to the public grid of energy
back-feeding equipment have been applied and all necessary conditions have been met!
• When operating multiple ELR units in parallel on the same grid, the cross section of the AC
cables has to match the increased output current from the energy recovery, especially the N
conductor of european models!
2.3.4.1
European models for 230 V
The equipment is delivered with a 5 pole mains plug. Depending on model, this will be connected with a 2-phase
or 3-phase mains supply, which has to be connected according to the labelling on the plug and the table below.
Required for the mains connection, with or without AIU (automatic isolation unit, monitoring the mains for correct
energy recovery), are following phases:
Nominal power Supply connector
3500 W
L2, N, PE
7000 W
L1, L3, N, PE
10500 W
L1, L2, L3, N, PE
>10500 W
L1, L2, L3, N, PE
The N and PE conductors are imperative and must always be wired!
If using an automatic isolation unit (AIU), all phases of a three-phase supply are required, be-
cause the mains monitoring feature of the AIU always monitors on three phases.
For the dimensioning of the cable cross section the power of the device and the cable length are decisive. The
maximum output current of the energy recovery feature per phase is calculated by the formula I
* Efficiency / 230 V. The maximum output current of every phase is ~16 A, the recommended minimum cross sec-
tion for up to 5 m cable length is 1.5 mm².
The included AC connection plug can receive cable ends of up to 4 mm². The longer the connection cable, the
higher the voltage loss due to the cable resistance. If the voltage loss is too high then the feedback will not func-
tion reliably or not at all. Therefore the mains cables should be kept as short as possible. The plug is labelled, as
depicted below. Following inputs on the plug to use, no matter what the supply is labelled:
