ELR 9000 Series
1.9.10

"Share" connector

The 2 pole socket ("Share") on the back side of the device is provided for connection
to equally named sockets on compatible electronic loads when establishing parallel
connection where symmetric current distribution is required, as well as compatible
power supplies to build a two-quadrants operation setup. For details about this feature
refer to „3.10.2. Parallel operation in master-slave (MS)" and „3.10.3. Two quadrants
operation (2QO)". Following power supply and electronic load series are compatible:
• PSI 9000 2U/3U (new series from 2014)
• ELR 9000
• EL 9000 B
• PSE 9000
1.9.11

"Sense" connector (remote sensing)

In order to compensate for voltage drops along the DC cables from the source, the
Sense input can be connected to the source. The maximum possible compensation
is given in the technical data.
1.9.11.1 Restrictions
Remote sensing is only intended for constant voltage (CV) operation and it is recommended to have the "Sense"
input only connected to the source when running the load in CV mode. Primarily in other regulation modes, but
also in CV, the sense cables can cause unwanted side effects, like oscillation, based on their length and induct-
ance. Also see 3.2.5.
In order to ensure safety and to comply to international directives, insulation of high voltage
models, i. e. such with a nominal voltage of 500 V or higher, is ensured by using only the two
outer pins of the 4-pole terminal. The inner two pins, marked with NC, must remain unconnected.
1.9.12

Master-Slave bus

A further port is provided on the back side of the device, comprising two RJ45 sockets, which
enables multiple devices of the same model to be connected via a digital bus (RS485) to create a
master-slave system. Connection is made using standard CAT5 cables. It can theoretically have
a length of up to 1200 m, but it is recommended to keep the connections as short as possible.
1.9.13

GPIB port (optional)

The optional GPIB connector, which is available with option 3W, will replace the Anybus
slot of standard version devices. The device then offers a three-way interface with GPIB,
USB and analog.
The connection to a PC or other GPIB port is done with standard GPIB cables from stock,
which can have straight or 90° connectors.
When using cable with 90° connectors, the USB port will be inaccessible.
