ting and adjusting new brake blocks
they should be 2-3 mm from the rim.
5. Secure the brake cable again. The
brakes are correctly adjusted if the
brake grips can be squeezed no further
than a quarter to half of the distance
to the handlebars. If you can squeeze
them further in, adjust them by tighte-
ning the cable adjusting screws on the
brake grips.
6. If the brake is not adjusted tightly
enough, in the case of the V-brake you
can also use a hexagonal key to loosen
the cable clamping bolt (A) (27) and
pull up the cable slightly. This same
bolt is also used for replacing the cable,
if necessary.
7. In the case of the cantilever brake,
you can use a hexagonal key to loosen
the cable clamping bolt (A) and the
screw of the middle tension piece and
pull up the cable slightly.

THE POWER MODULATOR
In some models, the brake power of
the V-brake is regulated by a 'Power
modulator' or brake power dosage
unit (28). The modulator mechanism
handles extreme brake power from
the brake grip. This helps to prevent
excessive braking and makes the brake
safer to use.
BACK-PEDAL BRAKES
In theory, alterations to the back-pedal
brake should only be carried out by
your Batavus dealer.
DRUM BRAKES
This type of brake requires little main-
tenance and is equipped with a brake
lining which has a very long life. There
are two ways to adjust the brakes:
• With the adjusting nipple near the
lever of the drum plate (29).
• With the cable adjusting screws on
the brake grips (30).
