T I P S
• Adjust the saddle so that it is horizontal.
• When you park your bicycle make
sure that the saddle is not up against a
rough wall or it will become damaged.
• If it rains the saddle surface may run
slightly. A separate saddle cover is easy
to carry with you and provides good
protection from the rain when the
bicycle is parked.
• Be careful when dismounting from
your bicycle! The back of your coat
can get caught behind the saddle and
cause an accident.
THE HANDLEBARS AND STEERING PIN
The handlebars also play an important
role in your seating comfort. The ad-
justment of the steering pin (higher or
lower) determines the position of your
back and the pressure of your hands on
the grips. Batavus bicycles have various
types of steering pins.
ADJUSTING THE SINGLE-UNIT
STEERING PIN WITH EXPANDER
The traditional type of steering pin is
constructed as a single unit. The pin
is clamped in the front fork using the
expander.

1. Loosen the expander bolt about 4
turns with the special accompanying
hexagonal key (5), or with a ring span-
ner in the case of the classical model
(6). Knock the bolt down with the ham-
mer. Use a hammer with a plastic head.
The bolt is now loose.
2. Adjust to the correct height and
tighten the bolt again fi rmly (see the
table of tightening torques).
3. Check whether the handlebars are fi rm-
ly tightened and replace the cap or cover.
The position of the handlebars can also
be adjusted in most of the models.
Loosen the clamping bolt slightly more
than one turn (7). Turn the handlebars
and tighten the bolt again fi rmly.
ADJUSTING THE ADJUSTABLE
STEERING PIN WITH EXPANDER
If your bicycle has a Batavus adjustable
steering pen, even fi ner adjustment
is possible. With this system you can

adjust the angle of inclination to your
own preference.
Batavus bicycles can have various types
of adjustable steering pins. Model A
with separate covering cap, model B
(8), model C, the Ergo Matic with lever
(9), and model D, the Batavus Ergo
Matic Plus steering pin.
