Diaphragm compressed air pump
Remedy
Ensure that the drive pressure is at least 0.35 bar
(5 ps) above the starting pressure and that the
differential pressure (the difference between the
drive pressure and fluid counterpressure) is at
least 0.7 bar (10 ps).
Check the air filter in the compressed air line for
foreign bodies.
Check the pump for extreme air leaks (blow out).
This would be a sign of worn seals/holes in the
compressed air valve, pilot valve, piston rod.
Disassemble the pump and check for blockages in
the compressed air channels and for foreign
bodies preventing the movement of internal parts.
Check pump for stuck ball return valves. If the
product being conveyed is not compatible with the
pump elastomers, these can swell up. Replace
ball return valves and seals with parts made from
appropriate elastomers. The valve balls also
become smaller with increasing wear and can
therefore become stuck in the valve seats. In this
case, replace valve balls and valve seats.
Check pump for broken internal diaphragm plate.
In this case, the pilot piston would no longer move.
Remove the plug from the vent opening for
outgoing air muffler.
Check pump for cavitation; slow down the pump
speed so that highly viscous material can flow into
the pump chambers.
