Safety instructions for handling the battery:
The lithium-ion batteries described in the product safety data sheet are sealed
units which are not hazardous providing they are used in accordance with the
manufacturer's recommendation.
Under normal operating conditions the electrodes and liquid electrolytes do not
come into contact with the environment. This requires the battery and seals to
remain intact.
There is only a hazard risk in the event of misuse (mechanical, thermal,
electric), which leads to actuation of the safety valves and/or the battery holder
breaking off. Depending on the circumstances, this may result in electrolyte
leaking, a reaction of the electrodes with humidity/water or a battery
vent/explosion/fire.
The battery must not be opened, dismantled, soldered or dropped.
Protect the battery against short-circuits – risk of explosion!
Protect the battery from rain and do not immerse it into liquids – risk of short-
circuit.
Protect the battery from direct sunlight, heat and fire.
Never throw the battery into a fire – risk of explosion!
Do not use faulty, leaking or misshapen batteries. Always check batteries for
outer signs of damage. Replace if in doubt.
Battery is fragile – handle with care.

In Germany, the battery is subject to the
following legislation:
Geräte- und Produktsicherheitsgesetz
(ProdSG) [German Equipment and Safety
Act] for technical working equipment and
consumer goods.
Legislation based on the Gefahrgutgesetz
[German Hazardous Goods Act].
Legislation based on the Batteriegesetz
[German Batteries Act].
Outside Germany the battery is subject to
national equipment and product safety laws.
CE marking:
The battery is not currently subject to any
legislation which requires CE marking.
Safety preconditions:
The battery has been tested and certified in
accordance with the UN Manual of Tests and
Criteria Part III, Sub-section 38.3, 1.2 m drop
test.
The lithium-ion battery meets the requirements
of the EU regulations.
Protect the lithium-ion battery from microwaves and high pressure.
The battery must be protected from shocks. It must be secured safely during
transport. Transport in compliance with the regulations. See the chapter
"Transport".
If smoke escapes from the battery, make sure the battery is sufficiently
ventilated. Breathing in fumes/smoke can lead to temporary side effects.
Do not use any battery which does not appear normal (misshapen, unusual
smell etc.).
Only use John Deere or SABO original batteries. There is a risk of serious
injuries if other batteries are used. In this case, neither John Deere or SABO
will accept liability. The mower warranty becomes invalid if batteries other than
those from John Deere or SABO are used.
Only use the battery for the original purpose.
If the charger supply cable is damaged, the cable must be replaced
immediately.
If the battery is damaged, its contents can leak. Do not touch.
Contact can lead to skin irritation, burns and chemical burns.
Do not inhale any fumes which are produced or emitted.
Do not mix up the positive and negative poles of the battery.

First-aid measures:
The corrosive fumes irritate the skin, eyes and mucous membranes in the event of
contact with the internal components. Eczema, skin allergies, lung injuries, asthma
and other respiratory illnesses can occur.
Skin contact: Rinse the parts of the skin affected for at least 15 minutes with
plenty of clean, lukewarm water. If the irritation, injury or pain persists, consult
a doctor.
Contact with the eyes: Rinse out for at least 30 minutes with plenty of clean,
lukewarm water, without rubbing the eyes. Consult a doctor without delay.
Inhalation: If a battery leaks, the contents can irritate the respiratory system.
Go out into the fresh air immediately. If the irritation persists, consult a doctor.
Swallowing: If the contents are swallowed, damage to tissue in the throat,
stomach and the respiratory system is possible. Consult a doctor immediately.
Medical information: Hazardous substances include:
Cells which contain electrolyte with a corrosive alkali effect
(lithium salt in organic solvents) with Li, Ni and Co/LiMn oxide cathode; but neither
lithium metal nor lithium alloys.
Measures following unintentional release:
On land: Use sand to absorb the electrolyte fluid and put it into a suitable container
and call the local fire brigade / police.
In water: If possible, remove from the water and call the local fire brigade / police.
Wear protective clothing:
face mask for organic gases
safety goggles
gloves
In compliance with legislation, hazardous waste must be disposed of at special
waste collection points (disposal code EAK: 16 06 05 or 20 01 34).
Measures to be taken in the event of a fire:
In the event of a fire, before the fire brigade arrives:
If a a lithium-ion battery is involved in a fire, douse the area with water. If the battery
is burning, water may not be sufficient to put it out, but it will cool other batteries
nearby and stop the fire from spreading.
CO2, dry chemicals and foam fire extinguishers are particularly suitable for smaller
fires, but may not be sufficient for extinguishing the burning lithium-ion battery. In
this case, the battery will burn out.
Practically all fires involving lithium-ion batteries can be extinguished with water.
However, this should only be done by trained personnel with sufficiently large
amounts of water. It must be remembered, however, that the use of water may
result in the formation of hydrogen, which forms an explosive mixture with air.
LITH-X- (graphite powder) or copper powder fire extinguishers, sand, ground
dolomite or sodium carbonate can also be used. These materials have a smothering
effect.
