5.5.2.2 Rotex D
The motor is protected by temperature switches installed in the
motor winding which trip if the maximum permissible winding
temperature is reached and restart automatically after the mo-
tor has cooled down.
Caution
The external protection equipment should always have three
poles and an interlocking device in order to ensure complete
separation from the mains; this equipment will also prevent the
unit from running on two phases only.
5.5.3

Checking the Direction of Rotation

Rotex E
The direction of rotation of Rotex E need not be checked, since
it has been set correctly at the factory.
Rotex D
The power supply cable has been connected in the factory so
that the pump will have the correct direction of rotation provided
that the mains' phase sequence (building supply mains) is cor-
rect.
The rotary field is correct when the socket has a clockwise
rotary field. This can be verified by means of a phase sequence
indicator.
When the pump set has been connected to the electric power
supply (5.5.1), verify the following:
Caution
If running in the wrong direction of rotation, the pump cannot
reach its duty point. The pump set might be damaged.
Before checking the direction of rotation make sure that there
is no foreign matter in the pump casing.
Never put your hands or any other objects into the pump.
Caution
The pump should only be started up for a very short period of
time (max. 3 minutes) for checking the direction of rotation.
Check:
The direction of rotation of the motor must correspond to the
direction indicated by the rotation arrow on the fan hood, i.e. the
fan must rotate clockwise viewed from the motor end.
If the pump runs in the wrong direction of rotation, interchange
two phases in the CEE plug. The pump will then run in the oppo-
site direction of rotation.

Level Control Switch
Rotex pumps are supplied with a level control switch for auto-
matic operation. The float switch on Rotex 70 and the displace-
ment weights on Rotex 10/20 must be set in accordance with
the liquid levels required.
5.6.1
Rotex 70
The switching level is set by fixing the float switch cable to the
intermediate pipe (712) at an appropriate height, using the clip
(73-2) and the O-ring (412.2) and by selecting an appropriate
free float switch cable length. It should not be shorter than 100
mm measured from the antikink bush in order to ensure correct
switching even with a cold, stiff cable. The unit is switched on
at an upper slant of the float housing of approx. 30° and
switched off at a lower slant of the float housing of 30° (clearly
audible switching noise in the float housing). The minimum
switching difference is approx. 400 mm. When setting the
switching levels see to it that the pump switches off before the
water level reaches the suction openings of the foot (182). The
14
minimum water level is 100 mm. Start-up must be effected be-
fore the water level reaches the upper sump edge. The float
switch must neither come to rest on the floor nor bump against
the sump cover, if installed. Make sure that the float cannot get
caught on any projecting parts, juts or similar in the sump.
5.6.2
Rotex 10/20
The switching level is set by fixing the two weights (59-11.1/.2)
to the thread (99-8.2) at an appropriate height. The unit is
switched on as soon as the upper weight (59-11.1) dips into the
medium handled. When the liquid level has fallen down to the
lower weight (59-11.2), the unit is switched off.
When setting the switching levels see to it that the pump
switches off before the water level reaches the suction open-
ings of the discharge casing (107). The minimum water level is
150 mm. Start-up must be effected before the water level
reaches the upper sump edge. Make sure that the weights can-
not get caught on any projecting parts, juts or similar in the
sump.
On pumps (installation depth 170 cm) with intermediate bearing
(part No. 303, thrust and radial bearing) the switch-on level
must be situated above this bearing. This will ensure that the
bearing bush is properly lubricated by the medium handled
when the unit is started up.
Follow the instructions given in 9.5 to mount the level control
equipment.

Commissioning, Start-up/Shutdown

Caution
Compliance with the following requirements is of paramount
importance. Damage resulting from non-compliance shall not
be covered by the scope of warranty.
Caution
Do not use the pump for media to which its materials are not re-
sistant according to the relevant technical documentation.
Before starting up the pump make sure that the following re-
quirements have been checked and fulfilled.
-- The operating data (5.3.1) and direction of rotation (5.5.3)
must have been checked.
-- The pump unit must have been properly connected to the
electric power supply in accordance with 9.4 Electric Circuit
Diagrams.
-- Install the pump as described in 5.3 and 5.4.
-- Before returning the pump to service after a prolonged shut-
down period carry out all checks and maintenance work spe-
cified in section 6.4.
6.1
Commissioning, Start-up
Before commissioning new installations thoroughly clean and
flush all tanks, sumps, pipelines and connections.
The pump should run quietly and free from vibrations at all
times.
Leakage of the medium handled escaping from the intermedi-
ate pipe (712 and 712.1) is a normal event.
The plain bearings are lubricated by the medium handled. The
liquid will exit through the overflow hole (A 17) at the intermedi-
ate pipe.
6.1.1
Rotex 70
The pump operates automatically, controlled by the liquid level.
It is switched on by the float switch when the latter has reached
the necessary upper slant. When the liquid level has dropped
to the float's lower slant position, the pump will be switched off.
