Assembly/Installation at Site

5.1

Safety Regulations

Your electrical installation must be in accordance with
VDE 0100/IEC 364 standards; for example, the sockets
must have earthing terminals.
The supply mains to which the pump is connected must
be equipped with a highly sensitive earth leakage cir-
cuit breaker (<30 mA).
Do not operate the pump set in a swimming pool or
pond as long as someone is bathing in it. The supply
mains to which the pump is connected must be
equipped with a highly sensitive earth leakage circuit
breaker (max. 30 mA) to avoid any hazard to persons
(please consult your electrician).
Caution! Switch off the pump prior to each assembly
and disassembly of the pipelines or any other work on
the pump.
If you use an extension cord, please see to it that it is
of the same quality as the pump cable supplied.
Make sure that all electrical equipment such as socket
and alarm unit are installed in a dry, flood-proof loca-
tion.
5.2
Checks to Be Carried out Prior to Installa-
tion
All structural work required must have been prepared in accor-
dance with the dimensions stated in the dimension table (9.2).
Make sure that all safety regulations are complied with.
Check whether the medium to be pumped is covered by the me-
dia specified under 4.1.
5.3
Installing the Pump/Unit
Prior to installation, inspect the unit for transport damage to the
pump or cable. It must be easy to rotate the pump shaft by hand.
Check by rotating the impeller at the suction opening on the
pump casing. Carry out the checks described in sections 6.1
and 6.2 before installing the pump.
The pump must be installed on solid, firm ground. For recom-
mended dimensions please refer to section 9.2.
Make sure that the float can move freely.
Caution
Do not suspend the pump by means of the power supply
cable.
Place the pump on the bottom of the pump sump or tank and
use clamp 733 to mount it to the wall without transmitting any
stresses or strains.
Caution
The pump must be installed in vertical position.
5.3.1
Verifying the Operating Data
Prior to installation and commissioning/start-up compare the
name plate data with the purchase order and site data (for ex-
ample, operating voltage, frequency, temperature of the me-
dium handled etc.).
5.3.2
Direction of Rotation
Caution
Rotex pumps with three-phase motor must be checked for the
correct direction of rotation prior to installation (refer to 5.5.3).
The direction of rotation of the pump with single-phase a.c. mo-
tor need not be checked, since it is set correctly at the factory.
5.4
Connecting the Piping
(Refer to 9.2 Dimension Drawings/Installation Examples.)
Connect the discharge piping to the pump without transmitting
any stresses or strains. The nominal diameters of the pipelines
should be at least equal to the nominal diameters of the pump
nozzles. The weight of the pipelines must be adequately sup-
ported at the site.
Caution
Never use the pump itself as an anchorage point for the piping.
The pump must not be subjected to any pipeline forces and mo-
ments.
Thermal expansions of the pipelines must be compensated by
appropriate measures so as not to impose any extra loads on
the pump exceeding the permissible pipeline forces and mo-
ments.
An excessive, impermissible increase in the pipeline forces
may cause leaks on the pump where the medium handled can
escape into the atmosphere.
Danger of life when toxic or hot media are handled.
Caution
Automatic drainage operation of the pump requires installation
of a non-return valve.
To protect the unit against backwash from the sewer, the dis-
charge line should first be laid so that it is situated above the
backwash level before it is led into the sewer.

Connection to Power Supply

5.5.1
General
It is of vital importance to comply with the safety regulations for
electrical connection. Rotex pumps are supplied complete with
power cable and plug and are ready to connect. You just need
to plug the mains plug into the appropriate socket.
Pumps without plug must be connected to the power sup-
ply by a trained electrician only. The relevant local regula-
tions must be heeded.
The available mains voltage must correspond to the voltage
stated on the name plate.

Motor Protection
If the thermal motor protection device keeps tripping the pump,
contact KSB's inspection service.
5.5.2.1 Rotex E
Caution
The motor is protected against overloading by an overcurrent
circuit breaker. The motor protection device will not be automat-
ically reset after the motor has cooled down. Press in the reset
button at the terminal box.
