6.1.2
Rotex 10/20
Rotex 10/20 pumps are suitable for pumping condensate with
a temperature of up to 90 °C from unpressurised tanks. The
tanks should be equipped with vent pipes having twice or at
least the same nominal diameter as the inlet pipes. When
pumping liquids with a temperature above 70 °C, a minimum
head of 8 metres (pressure gauge reading) must be ensured to
avoid cavitation and thus premature wear on the bearings.
When the pump is used for pumping condensate, the switch-off
level should be at least 400 mm.
The pump operates automatically, controlled by the liquid level.
It is switched on and off via a microswitch which is fitted in the
terminal box and activated by displacement weights.
6.2
Operating Limits
Caution
The pump is not approved for pumping sewage from toilets and
urinals or other waste water containing coarse substances to
a comparable extent.
The operating data are stated on the name plate (example in
9.3).
The pump is suitable for handling chemically neutral waste wa-
ter not containing coarse substances, sand or faeces. The max-
imum grain size is stated in 4.3.2.
Caution
The manufacturer will not accept liability, if other media than
specified are handled.
During the drainage of swimming-pools it is prohibited - -
for safety reasons - - to use the pool while the pump is oper-
ating.
Caution
Transporting sand as well as dry-running increase wear and
should be avoided.
If the pump is taken out of service for prolonged periods of time,
the liquid level above the pump casing should always be suffi-
cient. For units which are in service very rarely only, we recom-
mend to operate the pump for a short period (approx. 1 minute)
every 2 -- 3 months in order to flush the impeller and the bear-
ings. Fill up liquid, if required.
Caution
Do not operate the pump at temperatures exceeding those spe-
cified. Damage resulting from disregarding this warning will not
be covered by the KSB warranty.
Caution
Rotex 70 is not suitable for pumping condensate.
6.2.1
Switching Frequency
To prevent high temperature increases in the motor and exces-
sive loads on the motor, seal elements and bearings the switch-
ing frequency should not exceed 30 start-ups per hour.
6.2.2
Operating Voltage
The maximum permissible operating voltage deviation is
+/--10 % of the rated voltage. The maximum permissible volt-
age difference between the individual phases is 1 %.
6.2.3
Density of the Medium Handled
Caution
The power input of the pump will increase in proportion to the
density of the medium handled. To avoid overloading of the mo-
tor the density of the medium must comply with the data speci-
fied on the purchase order.
6.2.4
Sound Pressure Level
The sound pressure level is <70 dB(A).
6.3
Shutdown/Storage/Preservation
Work on the unit must only be carried out with the electrical con-
nections disconnected (or with the mains plug unplugged).
Make sure that the pump set cannot be switched on acciden-
tally (danger of life!).
Separate the pump and the discharge piping. Remove the
pump.
Clean the pump under a water jet.
Position the water jet on the pump's discharge nozzle.
Leave the pump to dry; store it vertically in a dry, frost-proof,
dark room. Secure it so that it cannot topple over. Special pres-
ervation measures are not required.
6.4
Returning to Service after Storage
Please refer to section 5 Assembly/Installation at Site.

Maintenance and Servicing

7.1
General Instructions
Switch off the pump prior to any maintenance/servicing work.
Any extension of the cable or dismantling of the motor/motor
components must be carried out by authorised trained person-
nel only.
The pump operates praccally maintenance-free. Slight wear of
the bearings is however unavoidable and will be aggravated by
sand contained in the medium pumped.
Pumps handling liquids posing health hazards must be decon-
taminated.
7.2
Maintenance/Inspection
Operational reliability will be improved by regularly checking
the pump's proper functioning.
From time to time, the sump/tank should be checked inside for
deposits, in particular in the area of the level control equipment,
and be cleaned, if required.
Make sure that the overflow hole (A 17) at the intermediate pipe
(712) is free at all times and not clogged or coated with incrusta-
tions.
7.2.1
Inspection and Maintenance Contract
DIN 1986, Part 3, item 3 stipulates that drainage systems have
to be maintained and kept in such a state of repair that all waste
water is properly discharged and that any faults are recognised
and eliminated in due time. It is highly recommended to take out
the inspection contract offered by KSB.
7.3
Drainage
The pump will be automatically drained when it is taken out of
the medium pumped.
7.4
Dismantling
-- Disconnect the unit from the power supply.
Caution
-- The unit must only be dismantled and reassembled by au-
thorised, trained personnel.
-- Refer to the exploded view.
7.4.1
Rotex 70
For cleaning the volute casing (102) undo the screws (901) and
remove the foot (182).
