Fault Possible cause
Engine does Fuel tank empty.
not start
Stale fuel.
Engine in cold state, choke not actuated.
Throttle not at "START" or set to maximum
speed.
Spark plug terminal not attached.
Spark plug contaminated or defective.
Primer not actuated for cold start.
Engine runs Choke lever still actuated.

Spark plug terminal loosely attached.

Stale fuel.
Water or dirt in the fuel system.
Fuel tank cap vent blocked.
Air filter contaminated.

Troubleshooting aid

Danger of injury from

inadvertent starting
Before all work on this machine
– switch OFF the engine,
– wait until all moving parts have
come to a complete stop and the
engine has cooled down,
– remove the spark plug connector
on the engine in order to prevent
the engine from accidentally being
started.
Remedy
Fill up fuel tank.
Drain off stale fuel into a suitable vessel in the open
air
Actuate choke
Set throttle at "START" – maximum speed.
Attach spark plug terminal to spark plug.
Clean spark plug
Have defective spark plug replaced
Press primer.
Reset choke.
Firmly attach spark plug terminal.
Drain off stale fuel into a suitable vessel in the open
air
Clean venting cap.
Clean air filter
Stop engine and remove spark plug terminal.
Clean hoeing assembly.
Replace bolt or screw. Secure bolt with spring
connector.
Have the clutch cable adjusted
Stop engine immediately and remove spark plug
terminal. Replace damaged parts.
Stop engine immediately and remove spark plug
terminal. Tighten screws or replace bolts.

Faults which occur during opera-
tion of the unit have in part simple
causes which you can rectify
yourself.
If in any doubt, or if expressly
instructed to do so, seek advice
from a specialist workshop.
Only permit repairs to be made by
a specialist workshop and using
original spare parts.
