11. Setting up the model

Before starting with the assembly of the model, make sure the work surface is suitable. To allow for excellent flight performance, your model is made of light
moulded foam. The disadvantage of this material is, however, a sensitive surface. The slightest inattention when assembling the model can cause ugly dents or
even holes.

a) Checking aileron operation

Before mounting the lower wing (1), check aileron operation. To do this,
place the fuselage (2) and the lower wing with the aileron servo on the
work surface so that the connecting cable of the servo (3) can be easily
connected to output 1 (lowest connection in the illustration) of the receiver
(4).
Important!
Pay attention to the correct polarity of the servo connector. You
can take the plugs already connected as an example.
Now switch on the transmitter. Open the lock of the front battery
compartment (see fig. 5a, pos. 5) on the underside of the model and
open the cover (see fig. 5b).
The back battery compartment (see fig. 5a, pos. 6) is intended for NiMH
rechargeable batteries used for the standard Pitts with a geared motor.
This compartment is not used with this brushless version. Make sure it is
always properly closed.
Take out the reverse-polarity protected connector of the speed controller
(7) and connect it with the 2-pole connector (8) of the flight battery (9).
The 4-pole balancer connection (10) of the rechargeable battery is not
used in the model.
If the motor speed control stick (see fig. 2, pos. 10) is in the lowest position
(motor off), the speed controller emits 2 short audio signals followed by
another 5 short audio signals.
Now check the function and centre position of the ailerons. If the control
stick (see fig. 2, pos. 4) and the aileron trim lever (see fig. 2, pos. 5) are
not operated and if they are in centre position, the servo lever (11) should
be at a 90° angle to the linkage rods (12). This is the only way to ensure
that aileron deflection is equal in both directions.
If necessary, the fastening screw of the servo lever can be unscrewed,
the servo lever lifted, turned "tooth by tooth" and put back and screwed
tight again in the right position. Make sure that the receiver is switched
off when adjusting the servo lever!
The trailing edges of the ailerons (13) now have to be flush with the
trailing edges of the wings (14). If a rudder flap is set too high or too low,
detach the respective clevis (15) and set the required length of the rod by
turning the clevis.
If the settings for the ailerons are complete, disconnect the flight battery
from the speed controller and switch off the transmitter.
