7. Notes on batteries and rechargeable batteries

Although batteries and rechargeable batteries are commonly used nowadays, they pose numerous dangers and problems. Especially with LiPo/
LiIon rechargeable batteries with their high energy content (in comparison with conventional NiCd or NiMH rechargeable batteries) various regulations
must be observed as otherwise there is danger of explosion and fire.
Thus, be sure to observe the following information and safety instructions when handling batteries and rechargeable batteries.
• Keep batteries/rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave the batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around openly; there is a risk of them being swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a
doctor immediately!
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must never be short-circuited, dismantled or thrown into fire. There is danger of explosion!
• Leaky or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries may cause caustic burns if they come into contact with skin. Therefore, you should use suitable protective
gloves.
• Do not recharge normal batteries. There is a risk of fire and explosion! Only charge rechargeable batteries intended for this purpose. Use suitable battery
chargers. Normal batteries (1.5 V) are meant to be used once only and must be disposed of when empty.
• When inserting batteries/rechargeable batteries or when connecting a battery pack or a charger, observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-). Wrong
polarity may damage the transmitter, the airplane and the rechargeable batteries. There is also a risk of fire and explosion.
• Always replace the entire set of batteries or rechargeable batteries. Do not mix full batteries/rechargeable batteries with half-full ones. Always use batteries or
rechargeable batteries of the same type and manufacturer.
• Never mix batteries and rechargeable batteries! Either use batteries or rechargeable batteries for the remote control.
• If the device is not used over a long period of time (e.g. during storage), remove the inserted batteries (or rechargeable batteries) from the remote control to
prevent damage from leaking batteries/rechargeable batteries.
• After the flight, the flight battery must be disconnected from the model. Do not leave the flight battery connected to the model if you do not use it (e.g. during
transport or storage). Otherwise, the flight battery might be fully discharged and rendered destroyed/unusable!
• Recharge rechargeable batteries about every 3 months, as otherwise they might be fully discharged due to self-discharge, which renders the rechargeable
batteries useless.
• The supplied charger may only be used with the enclosed LiPo battery. Never try to use it for charging different rechargeable batteries! There is a risk of fire
and explosion! The charger is not suited for charging rechargeable batteries in the remote control!
• Never charge the flight battery immediately after use. Always allow the flight battery to cool down to room temperature.
• Only charge intact and undamaged rechargeable batteries. If the external insulation of the rechargeable battery is damaged or if the rechargeable battery is
deformed or bloated, it must not be charged. In this case there is immediate danger of fire and explosion!
• Never damage the outer cover of the flight battery, do not cut the foil cover, and do not prick the flight battery with sharp objects. There is a risk of fire and
explosion!
• To charge the flight battery, remove it from the model and place it on a fire-proof surface. Keep a distance to flammable objects.
• As the charger as well as the flight battery heat up during the charging process, it is necessary to ensure sufficient ventilation. Never cover the charger or the
flight battery! Of course, this applies to any charger or rechargeable batteries.
• Never charge rechargeable batteries unattended.
• Disconnect the flight battery from the charger when it is fully charged.
• The charger and the flight battery must not become damp or wet. There is danger to life through an electric shock; furthermore, there is a risk of fire or
explosion!
• The charger may only be used in dry, closed rooms. Do not expose the charger or the flight battery to high/low temperatures or to direct sunlight.
The operation of the remote control (transmitter) with rechargeable batteries instead of normal batteries is possible.
However, the lower voltage (batteries = 1.5 V, rechargeable batteries = 1.2 V) and the lower capacity of rechargeable batteries reduce operating
time. Normally this does not matter, since the operating time of the transmitter exceeds that of the model.
If you use normal batteries in the remote control, we recommend using high-quality alkaline batteries.
