Measurement range
5 Measurement range
The numerical data given in the subsequent information relate to an abso-
lute resolution of 0.005 mm; the numerical values shall be divided in half
with an absolute resolution of 0.01 mm!
Display of numerical values
The value displayed by sensor MSA501 via the interface is always a multi-
ple of the set resolution.
Example:
Sensor output value = 340603; set resolution = 0.005 mm
-> Position value = 340603 * 0.005 mm = 1703.015 mm
For resolution set to 0.01 mm, the output value mentioned above corres-
ponds to a position value of 3406.030 mm.
Tape coding
The absolute coding of MBA enables a max. measurement range of
10240 mm (= 2048000 * 0.005 mm).

Position value
In order to avoid leaps occurring around the maximum value at the 0 posi-
tion, this maximum value (boundary) is limited to 10000 mm (= 2000000 *
0.005 mm). This enables recording of a range of up to -240 mm (= -48000
* 0.005 mm) in negative travel direction.

Variable boundary
If there is the requirement of extending the measurement range in nega-
tive direction, a positive value can be programmed as the boundary via
service mode interface.
e. g.: boundary = 6000 mm (measurement range = -4240 mm ... +6000 mm;
-4240 mm / 0.005 mm = 848000; +6000 mm / 0.005 mm = +1200000)
