Remove and inspect spark plugs
Other errors
Consult the operating instructions or bring the
engine to a licensed dealer.
INSUFFICIENT ENGINE POWER
Check air filter.
Check the gasoline

10. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
ETHANOL
(Ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol) 10% of the volume
You can use gasoline with up to 10% of ethanol mixed in.
Gasoline grades containing ethanol are sometimes marketed
under the name "Gasohole".
MTBE
(methyl tertiary butyl ether) 15% of the volume
You can use gasoline grades containing up to 15% of MTBE.
METHANOL
(Methyl alcohol or wood spirit) 5% of the volume
You can use gasoline grades containing up to 5% of methanol as
long as this gasoline contains additional solvents and an
anticorrosive to protect the fuel system. Gasoline grades with
more than 5% of methanol may cause problems during starting
and/or with the engine power. Furthermore, they may damage
TROUBLESHOOTING / TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Possible cause
Fuel valve to OFF
Choke lever to OPEN
Ignition switch OFF
No gasoline
Poor quality gasoline; engine stored without
gasoline being treated or drained or refuelled
with poor quality gasoline
Spark plugs faulty, corroded or wrong
electrode gap.
Spark plugs filled with gasoline (engine
"flooded")
Fuel filter clogged, carburettor defective,
ignition fault, valve jammed, etc.
Filter elements clogged.
No gasoline

gasoline being treated or drained or filled with
poor quality gasoline.
Fuel filter clogged, carburettor defective,
ignition fault, valve jammed, etc.
metal, rubber and plastic parts of the fuel system.
If you notice undesirable symptoms during operation change the
petrol station or use a different grade of gasoline.
Damages on the fuel system or problems with the motor
performance that can be traced to gasoline grades used and
where the percentages listed above were exceeded are not
covered by the warranty.
Information on the emission control system
Cause for pollutant emissions
Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons are
generated through the combustion process. Controlling
hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides is important because under
certain circumstances they react chemically and change into
photochemical smog through the effect of the sun. Although
carbon monoxide does not react in the same manner, it is still
toxic.
Remedy
Set fuel valve to ON
Turn the lever to CLOSED until the engine
is warm.
Turn switch to ON
Fuel up
Drain gasoline tank and carburettor. Refuel
with new gasoline.
Adjust electrode gap or replace spark
plugs.
Dry and reinstall spark plugs. Start engine
with throttle lever in FAST position.
Replace or repair faulty components.
Clean or replace filter elements.
Fuel up
Drain gasoline tank and carburettor. Refuel
with new gasoline.
