4. CHECKS BEFORE STARTING

IS THE ENGINE READY TO START?
To ensure your safety and to maximize the service life of the engine
its condition must be checked before each start. Correct any possible
problems or have them remedied by your customer service before
starting the engine.
Improper maintenance or troubleshooting prior to
starting may trigger malfunctions and cause serious injuries.
Regular inspections before starting help prevent problems.
Make sure before beginning with your check that the engine is
placed on level ground and the ignition switch is set to OFF.
Inspect the general condition of the engine
Check to see whether any traces of oil or gasoline leaks are
present around or underneath the engine.
Remove coarse dirt buildup especially in the area of silencer
and cranking rope.
Check for any possible damages.
Check whether all protective covers are properly installed and
all screws and nuts are firmly tightened.
Inspect the engine
Check the oil level of the engine. The engine may sustain damage
when running with the oil level too low.
Check the oil level before each start to avoid unexpected downtimes.
Check the air filter. A soiled air filter reduces the air supply to the
carburettor and thus the engine power.
Check the gasoline level. Starting the engine with a full tank avoids
or reduces standstill times for fuelling.
Inspect the machine powered by the motor
Before starting the engine read the operating instructions for the
machine powered by this engine, and follow the directions and safety
precautions contained in them.
