Exposure Compensation w ith the AE
Lock>
When the
AE
(auto exposure) lock is emp loyed,
the
came ra's
exposure memory
system
is in
effect.
Thus,
t he
exposure
reading
made
at the
mome nt you set
the
AE
lock
is the
exposure
obtain
ed when you
release
the
shutter,
not
the
normal uncompensated
auto exposure.
The
AE
lock
co mpensates
for
ex posures
such
as
those
on
t he
righ
t, for examp le, where t he background
is
excessive ly bright and you w
ish
to
p lace the
subject
in
the shade
at the
side
of the
pi cture
.
In
this
in
sta nce,
either
CD
p
lace
the subject
in
the
center of the p ictu re
and
set
the AE
lock;
then,
reframe
the subject at the
sid
e
of the
pi cture
and
release the
shutter.
Or,
when
possib
le,
®
wa lk
up
to t
he subject, make a
direct
exposure
read
-
ing
and set
th
e
AE
lock;
then,
wa lk
back
t
o t he o
rigina
l
shooting position and
ta
ke
the
pictu re.
Both
methods
are
effective; cho ice
depends upon
w
hi
cheve
r
is mo re
pract ica
l
at the
tim
e.
Th
e
AE
lock may
also be
con-
venient
ly set for
co
ntinu
ous
operat
ion such as
w
hen
making
consecut
ive
exposures w
ith
the
