Fall due to loss of functionality as well as damage to the product
• Only use the product for a single patient.
• Inform the patient.
Attention!
Please avoid exposing prosthetic components to surroundings that corrode metal parts, for
example, freshwater, saltwater, acids and other liquids. Using this medical product in such
environmental conditions will render all claims against Otto Bock HealthCare null and void.
Please inform your patients.
INFORMATION
As a basic principle, all Ottobock knee joints are subjected to tests involving three million load
cycles. Depending on the amputee's activity this corresponds to a service life of three to five years.
We recommend carrying out regular safety checks once a year.
2.4 Construction and function
Upper Joint Section (1) and Lower Joint Section (2) are bound together through four rotation
axes according to the engineering principle of a closed kinematic chain. The two Anterior Link-
age Bars (8) with cone shaped axis pins and the Posterior Linkage bar (6) provide the moveable
connection. The Extension Assist (11–15) accommodated in the Lower Joint Section extends the
joint until this is limited by the adjustable, elastic Extension Stop (5).
The joint provides a rotational and translational movement due to its polycentric action. During
flexion the centre of rotation changes its position, dependent on the degree of flexion (instantane-
ous centre of movement/rotation). In the extended position the instantaneous centre of rotation
is located above the joint and posterior to the weight bearing line, thus providing knee stability in
the stance phase (see section 4).
