10. Operation as a quadrocopter
Operation as a wing model aircraft (including the assembly of aircraft parts) is described in Chapter 11.
a) Checking the drive
Before operating the quadrocopter, test the drive. Only
when all four propellers run smoothly and in a perfect
circle can the model be flown with the minimum energy
consumption. For this reason, you should quickly check
the function of the drive propellers before each flight.
To do this, rotate each individual propeller carefully with
your finger and check the concentricity and the ease of
movement. Aspirated dust lint and hair can impair the op-
eration of the drive.
When doing this, pay attention to the directions of rotation
of the various propellers. Two propellers turn anti-clock-
wise when seen from above (A) and two propellers turn
clockwise (B).
b) Installing the guard
The guard can prevent damage to the propellers.
To install the guard, proceed as follows:
Place the guard on a flat, smooth surface with the frame
facing up and four clips (A) facing down.
Place the quadrocopter in the guard so that four motors
are within the round holes of the clips.
Now take the quadrocopter and the guard in your hand.
Always make sure that the propellers are not
bent or deformed. Otherwise this might lead to
an out-of-true run of the propellers, causing the
model to fly poorly.
Each of the four guard clips is now mounted on the wing
and clipped.
