mounting flange, and the socket depth of the coupling component 4618.40, which is around
11.5 mm.
Remove the shaft and cut it to length, taking care not to bend it. Remove rough edges from the
cut end.
1.4.2.2 Installing the drive shaft support rail
Cut the channeled rail to a length of 500 mm and glue it to the two spacer blocks as shown. Cut
the tubular bush to a length of 530 mm, and fit a ring about 3 mm wide cut from fuel tubing
(supplied with mechanics) on each end. Slip the sleeve onto the tail rotor drive shaft.
Place the shaft sleeve in the channeled rail and slide the fuel tubing rings up against the ends of
the rail so that they clamp it in position. Wind a strip of adhesive tape round the ends of the
channeled rail so that the sleeve cannot fall out. Now fit this assembly into the tail boom of the
fuselage from the front, slipping it past the mechanics, until the rear end of the drive shaft
projects far enough to allow it to be screwed in the coupling 4618.40 of the tail rotor gearbox;
slide the assembly forward again and engage the front end of the shaft in the quick-release
coupling.
Length check: there must be at least 1 mm axial clearance between the end of the shaft and the
front coupling yoke when the tail rotor is resting squarely on the tail rotor bulkhead.
Slide the channeled rail back until the distance between its front edge and the quick-release
sleeve is about 165 mm.
The spacer blocks attached to the channeled rail should now rest on the bottom of the tail
boom. When viewed from above, the tail rotor shaft should run in a straight line to the coupling
