ESD – Electrostatic discharge (SycoTec ESD2.0)
Modern motor spindles with high-performance hybrid ball bearings (steel rings and ceramic balls) have no electrical contact
between the shaft and housing due to the ceramic balls. In applications where an electrical connection between the shaft and
housing is required, contact can be established with the aid of carbon brush. The carbon brushes are firmly connected to the
housing and grind on the shaft. The static contact resistance is less than 300 Ohm on delivery.
The SycoTec motor spindle platform 4033 is equipped with latest state of the Art: SycoTec ESD2.0 – wear-free ESD protection.
ESD2.0
Contact resistance at standstill (0 rpm)
Contact resistance at max. speed (e.g. 60,000 rpm)
Lifetime & Servicing
Limit value for electrical contact resistance between spindle shaft and carbon brush (housing = protective earth) depends
on end user application & criteria.
The technical functionality of safe electrostatic discharge is guaranteed up to 1,011 Ohm. For an increased safety SycoTec
do not recommend values over 109 Ohm.
