Maintenance:
The use-life of the clamp is dependent upon the number of uses and care
taken during application, cleaning and storage.
• Do not bend or distort the clamp
• Do not allow clamps to be scratched by other instruments
• When using obturation techniques involving sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)
ensure clamps are rinsed immediately with water after the procedure.
Prolonged contact with sodium hypochlorite can cause pitting of the clamp
which results in a significantly shorter life.
• Clean and sterilize in accordance with the Cleaning and Sterilization Instruc-
tions.
Clamp Selection Guidelines:
Select a clamp that will maintain four-point contact with the tooth's proximal
surfaces. If a clamp is too large, it will impinge on the soft tissues. If it is too
small, it will not properly grasp the tooth's surface, and it will be unstable.
Antior Tooth:
Use a double-bowed clamp (i.e. #9)
Premolar:
Use a small, flat-jawaed clamp (i.e. #00; #2) or curved-
jawed clamp (#1) for maxillary premolar
Mandibular Molar:
Use a flat-jawed clamp (i.e.) #3; #7)
Maxillary Molar:
Use a clmap with curved jaws (i.e. #8; #56)
Partially-Erupted
Use a clamp with sub-gingivally designed jaws, suitable
Tooth: to size of anchor tooth (i.e. #2A; #8A; #14; #14A)
Structurally
Use a clamp with serrated jaws (i.e. #12A; #13A)
Compromised Tooth:
Clamp Placement:
The use of Dental Dam Forceps is recommended to place the clamps. Refer
to the Instructions for Use for Dental Dam Forceps.
Note: To reduce use error, ensure the forceps have properly engaged the
clamp prior to placing the clamp.
1. Select the desired clamp.
2. Tie a safety litigation (dental floss) around the clamp to reduce the risk of
injury to the patient should the clamp become dislodged or break.
3. Pre-fit the clamp to ensure that there is a four-point contact with the
tooth's proximal surfaces.
4. Apply the lingual jaw of the clamp first.
