(right)
The RI detectors are calibrated by the manufacturer using an aqueous
solution of citric acid (10mg/ml) against deionized water, resulting in a
measured value of 1.147x10
An aqueous solution of glucose monohydrate (8.28mg/ml) can also be
used for checking the calibration. This results in a relative refractive index
-3
of 1x10
RIU at 20°C (against deionized water) .
To shut down the RI Detector 2300/2400 for longer periods, the measure-
ment and reference cells must be emptied according to the following
SOP:

Emptying the measurement cell

1. Activate the Flush function in the main menu. Make sure that the
selected duration for flushing is long enough to complete steps 2 to 5.
Activate the function flush repeatedly, if necessary.
2. Fill solvent into the measurement cell using a 10 ml syringe
3. Carefully press air into the measurement cell using a 10 ml syringe
4. Fill acetone into the measurement cell using a 10 ml syringe
5. Carefully press air into the measurement cell using a 10 ml syringe
6. Close the connections on the front panel of the instrument by means
of suitable fittings.
Buffer solutions can damage the detector cells after only a few
hours. Therefore make sure that no buffer solution will remain
inside the cells after shutting down the RI detector, even for a short
time or overnight.
