Multi-function ports can be individually enabled and configured (see Section Configuring the I/O
ports, page 56 to 69).
WARNING
Limited safety function when using non-safe signals
The signals DI3 (Pin 5) and DO1 (Pin 8) are not processed or generated
for safety purposes. These signals may therefore never have any safety
relevance.
► Account for signals DI3 Pin 5) and DO1 (Pin 8) in the risk assessment for
your safety applications!
WARNING
Fault detection for external cross-wiring
When using a safe input port in 1oo1 configuration and disabled test
pulses, cross-connections between the external conductors on this port
cannot be detected. This can result in loss of the safety function.
► Take measures to ensure that short circuits of the external conductors are
precluded when using a safe input port in 1oo1 configuration.
► Take steps such as described in EN ISO 13849-2 Table D.4 (e.g. route wires
permanently and protected from external damage).
NOTICE
Extraneous voltages affecting the input characteristic curves
External voltages on the input channels can lead to deviations in the input
characteristic curve per EN/IEC 61131-2, Type 3 or to destruction of the safe I/O
module.
► All sensors and actuators must be powered by the voltage provided by the
BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 at the ports. This applies to the +24V supply as well as the ground
potential.
Connect safety switches, safety sensors or safety interlocks to the safe multi-function ports using
M12 plugs (8-pin). (For M12 connectors see Accessories on page 110).
