OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
PM 5330
3.5.3
Input via Keyboard
The instrument can be controlled via keyboard or IEEE-488 bus respectively RS-232 inter-
face. When working via the bus the keyboard is inhibited. REMOTE lights up in the display. For
details see Programming manual PM 5330.
Operational errors will not cause any damage to the instrument. The RF output is protected
against external power up to 50 W, depending on level settings; see Technical Data,
Chapter 4.
Any illegal input values or combinations are shown by the illegal parameters flashing in the
display after ENTER has been pressed. Data can be input in any order. Values that have been
input earlier and don't need to be changed need not to be input again.
Input values can be corrected using the key RUB OUT, before pressing the ENTER key. Press
the ENTER key when all values or parameters have been input. The text ENTER lights up in the
display as a reminder.
There are four kinds of keys resp. control elements to set up instrument settings:
1. Control elements with direct effect on the output signal:
-
the rotary knob alters RF frequency, output level , modulation /audio frequency,
AM depth, deviation
-
the keys "+O" "-O" alter frequency or output level with preset step width
-
the key ENTER executes preselected settings and parameters
-
key OFF/ON switches the modulation off or on
-
key RF OFF/ON switches the output signal off or on
2. Keys to prepare input of digits:
-
FREQ for frequency input
-
(FREQ) ~ for input of step width for frequency stepping
-
LEVEL for output level input
-
(LEVEL) O for input of step width for level stepping
-
ADDR for input of device address for remote control
3. Keys to select modulation modes and -parameters:
-
MODULATION to select the modulation mode
-
MOD PARAMETER to select distinct modulation parameters
resp. to prepare input of digits
4. Keys to select the units:
-
MHz/kHz for frequency unit
-
dBm/µV for output level unit;
dBm can be changed to dBmV or dBµV by special function
