INTRODUCTION
The PM 5330 is a RF generator of great precision and stability. It provides sine wave signals
within the frequency range of 100 kHz to 180 MHz. Various modulation modes like AM, FM,
SWEEP functions and STEREO permit a wide field of applications in radio, television and com-
munication engineering in the field of research, science and industry.
The microprocessor control enables variable and rapid operation. During manual operation
all settings are input using the keyboard; setting of data is simplified by a clear LCD display
showing each value as it is entered. It is also possible to recall up to 75 previously stored
settings at a touch of a button, Additional background lighting ensures that the large LCD
display can be easily read in all fields of operation.
The amplitude at the RF output is 0.1 µV to 1 V at 50 S2, resp. -127 dBm to +13 dBm, ideally
suited for sensitivity and radiation measurements. The output level can be set to a maximum
resolution of 0.1 dBm and the frequency to a resolution of 10 Hz. They can be varied either by
using a rotary knob or the keyboard.
The frequency is generated according to the principle of indirect frequency synthesis using
programmable dividers and crystal -stable reference oscillators, resulting in precise and
spectrally pure RF signals. Particular attention has been paid to HF leakage; the RF oscillators
and the digital electronic have been mounted in two separate, screened cases to prevent any
interference.
A reverse power protection protects the RF output to a large extent from too high external HF
and DC voltages.
Internal and external amplitude- and frequency modulations as well as sweep function are
possible within a frequency range up to 180 MHz. Different combined modulation modes are
also possible, e.g. AM with FM, SWEEP with AM, or Stereo with RDS/ARI.
The instrument can also be used as a frequency counter with variable input impedance in the
frequency range 10 Hz to 200 MHz.
An IEEE-488 interface or RS-232 interface for remote control are optional available. The
instrument is thus ideally suited for operation where testing is automatic and computer-
operated, e.g. on the production line and quality control . The IEEE-488 bus address can
be set and displayed by operating the keyboard.
The RDS/ARI option -Radio Data System and 'Autofahrer Rundfunk Information' -adds test
facilities providing convenient and fully integrated test functionality for car radios, decoders
and multiplex broadcast receivers for RDS/ARI . The RDS/ARI module operates in accordance
with the EBU (European Broadcast Union) system.
