 CAUTION
Non-active safety mode. If safety mode can no longer be activated, there is a risk that the patient will fall.
If the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint can no longer be set to safety mode (e.g. in the event of a short circuit due to wa-
ter entry), the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint may have to be actively secured upon heel impact using the residual limb
musculature until reaching a prosthetist or replacing the prosthesis. In this case, the prosthetist must be contacted
promptly.
 CAUTION
Danger when activating safety mode. The damping characteristics of the knee joint change when a safety mode
is activated. In certain situations, this can cause the patient to fall.
When the audible and vibration signals are emitted simultaneously, the patient must immediately stop all activities
involving the leg prosthesis. After approximately 10 seconds, and from a secure standing position, check to see
if stance phase resistance is active by slightly bending the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint repeatedly under controlled
weight bearing.
 CAUTION
Safety mode cannot be deactivated. When the knee joint is in safety mode, this most likely indicates a knee joint
defect. Malfunctions may occur in this state. This can cause the patient to fall.
If safety mode cannot be deactivated by recharging the battery, an error has occurred. Contact the prosthetist to
have the error corrected.
9.2  Battery Charge Level
During normal operation, the battery charge level is indicated via vibration signals (in addition to the display on the
remote control) (see Section 2.1 "Charging the 3B1 / 3B1=ST Knee Joint").
9.3  Storage and Bleeding
When storing the knee joint, press the top of the knee to the flexion stop. When using the knee joint again, hold the
knee joint with the top of the knee facing upwards and push the top of the knee until it is fully extended.
If the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint is stored in a position other than vertical for an extended period of time, air can gather
in the hydraulic system. This is noticeable through sounds and irregular damping behaviour.
The automatic bleeding mechanism ensures that all functions of the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint are fully available after
approximately 10 - 20 steps.
9.4  Cleaning and Care
Clean the prosthesis with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and mild soap (e.g. Ottobock 453H10=1 Derma Clean) when
needed. Ensure that no liquid penetrates into the system components. Afterwards, dry the prosthesis component with
a soft cloth.
9.5  Service
INFORMATION
This component was tested for three million load cycles in accordance with ISO 10328. Depending on the amputee's
activity level, this corresponds to a service life of three to five years.
The duration of use can be individually extended depending on the intensity of use by performing the regular service
inspections (see 646D534=* Genium Service Pass).
In the interest of patient safety and in order to maintain operating safety and protect the warranty, a service inspection
is required after 24 months (see 646D534=* Genium Service Pass). This service inspection includes an inspection of
the sensors and the replacement of wear parts.
For the service inspection, the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint with installed AXON tube adapter (2R20/2R21), remote con-
trol (4X350) and complete charger (4E60) including power supply (757L16-3) and Genium service pass (646D534=*)
must be sent to the authorised Ottobock Service Centre.
