BAM (Federal Institute for Materials
Research and Testing).To enable a
reliable and consistent calibration the
BAM standard is precisely fitted dust
proof housing - the calibration cap.
The white BAM standard for the 45°/0° probe
head is made of a very matt surface. It must not
be touched and cannot be cleaned. If the surfaced
is contaminated it will affect the absolute values.
This is critical when measuring against stored
standards.
So that the BAM standard is protected from soiling,
always replace the lid after calibration.
3.3 d/8° Probe head
The d/8° probe head is permanently connected to the
operating unit via a flexible stainless steel cable. With
this probe head the sample is diffusely illuminated and
the reflected measured at an angle of 8°. The diffuse
light is created with an integrating sphere with a barium
sulphate coating.

3.3.1 d/8° Calibration standards
To calibrate the sph xs1 a certified white standard is
supplied. This standard is traceable to the normal of the PTB
(Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) in Braunschweig and
comes with a certificate from the BAM (Federal Institute for
Materials Research and Testing).

This cable contains an optical fibre and should not be
forcefully bent (less than 15 cm radius) during the
measurements.
