17. Troubleshooting
The following table shows fault symptoms and describes remedial measures in the event of your machine failing to
work properly. If you cannot localise and rectify the problem with this, please contact your service workshop.
Fault
The machine will not
switch on.
Machine not functioning
or stops suddenly.
Machine stops during
planing.
Workpiece jams during
thicknessing.
Speed drops during
planing.
Unsatisfactory surface
condition.
Machined surface too
rough.
Machined surface
cracked.
Possible cause
No mains voltage present.
Carbon brushes worn out.
Chip extraction system
not fitted.
Power failure.
Motor or switch faulty.
Check microswitch.
Planing blade blunt/worn.
Overload switch has
tripped.
Check microswitch.
Too much chip take-off.
Feed to fast.
Cutting depth too large.
Too much chip take-off.
Feed to fast.
Blunt blades.
Planing blade blunt/worn.
Planing blade clogged by
chips.
Uneven feed.
Workpiece still contains too
much moisture.
Workpiece was machined
against the direction of
growth.
Too much material planed
off at once.

Remedy
Check power supply.
Take the machine to the customer service workshop.
Fit chip extraction system.
Check fuse / overload protection
Have the motor or switch checked by a qualified
electrician.
Mount the chip extractor so that the microswitch is
actuated.
Check fuse on the mains side.
Due to the built-in undervoltage protection, the machine
does not restart by itself and must be switched on again
when the voltage is restored.
Change or sharpen blades.
Switch back on again after motor cool-down time.
Mount the chip suction hood or table locking mechanism
in such a way that the micro switch is started.
Reduce chip take-off.
Reduce feed speed.
Reduce the cutting depth and machine the workpiece in
multiple operations.
Reduce chip take-off.
Reduce feed speed.
Replace blades.
Change or sharpen blades.
Remove chips.
Feed workpiece with constant pressure and reduced
feed rate.
Dry workpiece.
Machine the workpiece from the opposite direction.
Process the workpiece in multiple operations.
