This warning draws attention to the possible consequences of touching electrostatically sensitive
components.
16.3.2 Safety Instructions
16.3.2.1 ESD Warnings
The handling instructions for electrostatically sensitive components must be observed!
ESD
Electronic components are generally at risk from electrostatic discharge (ESD). Electrostatic charge can
occur during any moving activity. ESD can occur with any contact.
Most discharges are so small that they are not noticed. However, they can still endanger or destroy
unprotected electronic components. Therefore, any handling of open electronics is generally only permitted
under effective ESD protection.
Observe the following ESD measures when handling open electronics:

Only touch open electronics if absolutely necessary

Put on a dissipative ESD wrist strap

Use a dissipative work surface

Establish a conductive connection between device/system, pad, wrist strap and ground connection

Prefer cotton work clothes over synthetic fiber materials

Keep work area free of highly insulating materials (e.g. polystyrene, plastics, nylon, ...)

Apply ESD protection to defective assemblies as well
In general, always keep the devices in their original packaging and only remove them immediately before
installation.
Avoid direct contact with electronic components that may be accessible, such as in the area of non-
equipped terminals, even for modules that are installed in a housing.
