• Pull the trocar completely out of the
scalp (Fig. 9) and cut the trocar from the
parenchymal probe guide (Fig. 10, a).

• Position the end of the parenchymal
probe guide near the drill hole or
craniotomy site. Ensure that the suture
retaining rings (Fig. 10, b) on the surface
of the parenchymal probe guide lie near
the rear scalp incision.

Insertion of the p
probe
• Remove the CC1P1 combined oxygen
and temperature probe from its sterile
package. Remove the protection tube
(Fig. 5, b, d) from the probe at [a] in
Fig. 5. Be sure to remove the smart card
before discarding package.

• Insert the distal end of the CC1P1 probe
into the parenchymal probe guide and
affix the male luer-type fitting on the
CC1P1 probe (Fig. 5, a) to the female
luer-type fitting on the parenchymal
probe guide (Fig. 4, a2). The distal end
of the CC1P1 probe will extend past the
end of the parenchymal probe guide near
the drill hole or craniotomy site (Fig. 11).

parenchymal probe guide
• Insert the distal end of the CC1P1 probe
into the brain parenchyma using forceps
(Fig. 12).
• Ensure that the probe body is not
damaged during insertion. If a bone
flap is used, notch the corner of one
of the drill holes and ensure that the
probe enters through this hole. Adjust
the position of the parenchymal probe
guide, if necessary, to allow the CC1P1
probe distal tip to be positioned correctly
with respect to the insertion site.
