Connection of Inlet Manifold
1. Remove the pump head inlet bushing (4) and exchange it with the
new one. Be sure to note the orientation of the check valve.
This bushing also can be used without the inlet manifold. It enables
by ist capillary connection the delivery of eluents with a certain
primary pressure.
2. Remove the lower right pump head set screw (2).
3. Install the U-shaped capillary (5) between the pump head inlet
bushing (4) and the new inlet manifold (1).
4. Position the spacer (3) between the pump head and the inlet
manifold (1) and bend the capillary slightly.
5. Guide the new (longer) pump head set screw (2) through the inlet
manifold (1) and the spacer (3) into the pump head and tighten it.
6. Connect the inlets with the corresponding solvent outlets A to D of
the Smartline Manager 5000.
7. Close any unused inlets with blind fittings.
For best results when running a binary gradient
use the two opposing connectors.
For best results when running a ternary or
quarternary gradient, use the furthest
positioned connectors for the two most different
solvents.
The older low pressure gradient inlet (delivered until September 2006) is
connected to the pump head according to Fig. 22. Carefully tighten the
fitting screw manually. The connecting holes should be directed outwards
to allow for the easier connection of tubings.
Connections with the older inlet manifold for low pressure gradients
Connect the four inlets with the corresponding solvent outlets A to D of
the Smartline Manager 5000. Close any unused inlets with blind fittings.
For any gradient system a eluent mixing device is recommended. Best
mixing results are achieved by using the SmartMix mixer which can be
used for LPG as well as HPG systems. The mixer can be mounted at the
pumps frontplate behind the door simply by fixing with two screws.
