Checking/adjusting/
replacing spark plug
Worn spark plugs, or a spark plug
gap that is too large, will lead to a
reduction in engine power.
1. Switch off the engine and let the device
cool down.
2. Unscrew the screws (31) of the air filter
cover (32) and remove the air filter co-
ver (32) from the air filter housing.
3. Remove theair filter (33) from the air
filter housing.
4. Pull the spark plug connectors (34)
from the spark plugs (35).
5. Unscrew the spark plug (35) anticlock-
wise with the combination tool (17).
6. Check the spark plug gap with the
help of a feeler gauge (available from
specialised dealers) The electrode air
gap must be 0.6-0.7 mm.
7. Reset the gap if necessary, by carefully
bending the ground/side electrode of
the spark plug (35).
8. Clean the spark plug (35) with a wire
brush.
9. Reinsert the cleaned and reset spark
plug (35) or replace any damaged
spark plugs (35) with a new one (see
chapter "Spare parts/accessories").

Adjusting the carburettor

The carburettor has been preconfigured
for ideal performance at the factory. If any
readjustments are necessary, have the ad-
justments made by a specialist workshop.

Sharpening the saw chain

An incorrectly sharpened
saw chain increases the dan-
ger of spring-back!
Use cut-protection gloves
when you are handling the
chain or the chain bar.
A sharp chain guarantees an op-
timal cutting performance. It eats
effortlessly through the wood and
leaves large, long wooden chips.
A saw chain is blunt if you have to
press the cutting equipment through
the wood and the wooden chips
are very small. In the case of a very
blunt saw chain, no chip cuttings
result at all, only sawdust.
• The sawing parts of the chain are the
cutting elements, which consist of a cut-
ting tooth and a depth limiting projec-
tion. The vertical separation distance
between these two determines the
sharpness depth.
• The following values must be noted in
sharpening the cutting teeth:
- Sharp edge angle (30°)
- Breast angle (60°)
- Sharpness depth (0.65 mm)
Deviations from the meas-
urement data of the cutting
geometry can lead to an
increase of the spring-back
