• It is recommended that the Miller HandZup® length adjuster be disconnected
from the safety belt or harness belt to replace the rope lanyard more easily.
• Remove the slide locking screw with a screwdriver equipped with an appropri-
ate tamper-proof driver bit.
• With the left index finger, push the cam to release the slide. Take hold of it with
your right hand and open as far as possible (about 70°).
• With your right hand hold the slide open.
• Using your left hand release the rope lanyard from the cam.
• Then take it out of the length adjuster.
• Take the replacement rope lanyard and insert it into the length adjuster.
ENSURE THE LENGTH ADJUSTER IS FITTED THE CORRECT WAY
AROUND ON THE ROPE SO THAT IT LOCKS ONTO THE ROPE
UNDER TENSION. WHEN CORRECTLY FITTED, THE KARABINER
OF THE LENGTH ADJUSTER IS POSITIONED AT THE SAME END
See figure 12A/12B.
• Place the rope lanyard around the cam, ensuring it is held close to the bottom
of the slide.
• Release the slide and ensure it is completely closed while holding the rope
lanyard.
• Replace the locking screw if necessary (optional).
• Reconnect the length adjuster on the D of the belt or harness belt.
• Check the locking/release at ground level.
This procedure is valid for any type of rope lanyard (100% textile or reinforced,
from 2 to 40 metres, all types of karabiner). Refer to Appendix 1 to see the full
range available.
5-4 REPLACING THE SHEATH
If there is a protective sheath on the rope lanyard and it must be replaced, proceed
as follows:
• If there is a removable karabiner at the end of the rope lanyard, remove it and
slide the sheath off the rope lanyard. Perform the reverse with the new sleeve
and replace the karabiner.
• If the karabiner is not removable, pull the length adjuster rope lanyard (see
paragraph 5-3) and slide the sheath along the rope lanyard towards the stop.
Perform the operation in reverse with the new sleeve. See figure 12.
6 - PERIODIC REVIEW
Complete the identification form by copying the marking information.
A periodic review checking the effectiveness and strength of the equipment is
essential to ensure the safety of the user.
This equipment must be examined at least once a year; a qualified person must
examine this equipment in compliance with these instructions and appropriate
details of the inspection must be recorded.
At each periodic review, complete the identification form on page 174.
The frequency of examination should be increased according to the regulations,
in the case of heavy use or harsh environmental conditions. The legibility of the
product markings must be checked.
